Tanganyikan Project

I`m really loooking forward to seeing the tanks all done and stocked, I`m all excited for you :fun:
I'm buzzing
I know there has been a delay and it's still a few weeks away but it's all good :good: It was a hard choice walking away from the bigger tank but after measuring up and using the masking tape it would have been practically shoehorned in and quite cramped. The other stock I am now getting could have stayed in the 95ltr on a very temp basis, but best just get them in the bigger tank. Can't wait, got a big basin with all the ocean rock and boiling water on the go just now  Was going to put some Leleupi and Tretocephalus in the new tank along with some Telmatochromis Temporalis "shell" and maybe a Julidochromis of some description but there's so much to choose from
:fish: :fish: :fish: :fish: :fish:

Those Telmatochromis Temporalis "shell" are great looking, could almost pass for a Tang Steatocranus with those bulbous foreheads!

The temporalis are ugly!! :hyper:

Just read an article on them that says they`re quite aggressive so knowing what the leleupi were like when I had them they probably would be a good match on the aggression scale. Same with the five bars I would have thought by what I read on them too.
I think our next tank will consist of the sexfasciatus, five bar, leleupi etc, the higher level of aggression wouldn`t be so much of a problem if they`re all pretty well matched :)

It`s difficult sometimes when you have to let your head over rule your heart instead of vice versa but I`m sure it`ll turn out that you made the right decision on the tank size :good:

Just redone the rockwork again  , and I still hate it  , it's just as well I have been selling all those Assassin Snails and bits and bobs or I would be on my second mortgage with this project  I know it's a biut of a cop out getting the smaller tank, but I have saved a few hundred quid and then all the hardware on top :good:

Elisew - I think the idea of a tank with Leleupi and Tets etc would make a nice tank, all that colour and not to much one sided aggression :good:

I might even get a Calvus as well now

You`re a perfectionist!! But then, I can`t fault you for that can I really

If it`s made more sense to opt for the smaller tank then I don`t see it as being a cop out at all, merely sensible :good: I`ve had so much enjoyment and entertainment with the Tangs so far, even in such a short time so I definately want to stay with the Tangs, just step the pace up a bit with the next tank. Fingers crossed we`ll be looking at moving house around Easter 2012 so not too long to wait :D

Going by how my calvus have been so far, I would say they`re very placid, they don`t really do much to be honest as they`re so chilled out but I would certainly say they`re a nice peaceful addition.......you won`t regret getting one ;)

On an extra note......I`ve just found a baby assassin snail in my crystal red shrimp tank so hopefully a few more will emerge now :D

I still find the odd baby now and again, I actually think they look quite cute (?)
True about the finances, it was going to cost over 550 for tank , cabinet and hood.
The roma240 is over 200 less and has all the hardware :good:
It's funny aiming towards a goal and then all of a sudden setting up 2 tanks, I can't let go of the 95ltr so have a feeling I'll strip it and hide it away in the shed for a month or three then I'll make some axcuse about needing it for fry or something  :shifty:

Fluval Roma240 arrived this morning :good:
Eggcrate arrived later :good:
Sand arrived this afternoon :good: wrong sand :grr:

Have built stand up, need to wait till tonight as I can't get the tank upstairs myself

Have added lighting to the 190ltr, 36" 30W aqua glo, and the old 24" 20W aqua glo on a reflector, removed the actinic blue 20W, this will get added back on with it's own controller later, should give a blue sheen and will run it on it's own occassionaly as a "moonlight" bulb. Will getsom pics. up later, it look much better now :good:
Have had some water problms with the 48ltr, can't get the chemistry right if that makes sense, cloudy water etc, have stripped it out and restarted it, again this looks much better, looking into a small external now, it did have a Tetratec EX700 at one point crammed in the cabinet but it was a bit over the top, like the look of these new TMC Powerbox Nano's so watch this space.
As for the media in the Fluval 305 that came with the tank I'm not to fussed, wiil clone some media from the other 2 externals I have and change the carbon with some sponge I have and chuck some coral gravel in there also :good:

Will post up some pics. of the new tank soon :good:
Will post up some pics of some new fish in the future, cheers for looking :good:

Couldn't wait till tonight so somehow managed to get the tank upstairs, ouch, I'll be complaining about a sore back tomorrow

Set up the filter (I think), just went for the through the bottom of the tank set up, not sure how this is gonna go so watch this space. I wasn't happy with the "media" provided so had some spare laying about. Put Tetra ceramic noodles on the bottom topped with some carbon sponge, hoping this will trap some extra particles , Tetra bio balls in the next tray then just the Fluval ceramis stuff on top, on the look out for polishing pads now. Not great pics but here goes.

Put some egg crate in just now, first time I've ever had it and had to cut it, made a bit of a mess

Photo0866.jpg

Will probably put these 2 bigger sponges in for a while to help things along

Was thinking this guy could go in with the baby Tropheus when I get them.

Just have to wait on the sand now, that really put a spanner in the works, wanted the tank up and running tonight but that's the way the cookie crumbles I suppose

Just need to give it all a good clean, which is what I should have done first  then get the backgound on, then another one of these :good:

Love the tank, it looks really nice! :good:
Hope your back is ok......Mr Impatient!

Sounds like both yours and my plans for having the tanks up and running this weekend have gone by the wayside for now :shout: I`m hoping that I can get the guy out to set up the plumbing tomorrow, (that`ll give me a few days for any sealant to set around the seals underneath the tank) then I`ll order my fish on Monday to be delivered on wednesday :fish: :fish: :fish:
Fingers crossed that your sand gets sorted sooner rather than later ;)

Not long now ;)

Looking forward to seeing your Malawi tank up and running, I have been tepted by the Yellow Labs a few times :good:
I was supposed to be getting some of the fish on Sunday but will have to postpone now (AGAIN) :grr:

Had to fill it with water, wondered what the gurgling sound was, the filter started priming itself
Check out all the lines on the glass for each bucket

You're just trying to make pretty patterns!

You remind me of..........me! I can't just sit and wait either   glad things are moving along now though :good:

Never mind the sore back from carrying it upstairs, it's the sore legs from carrying all the buckets
I can't wait to get some bloody fish now

Cleared the rest of the bubbles this morning. Added a few more roskc and changed to a more simpler scape. Was going to put all the fry in here but then I though about having to fish them all out. Added the yellow Bn Plec , one of the browns was in the net also so added 3 plecs to the tank. Added the 2 sponge filters, I should have put the filters in before the rocks  The yubing is not long enough to go where I want so will be needing some more :grr:
Here's a wee snap from this morning...
