I do that too! I call myself making sure they are still alive.
I meant shallow sand. I have a small piece of wood that has a few small java ferns attached. It is covered with brown furry stuff though right now. I can't keep the stuff off of it. so I was planning on putting a clean piece of wood in.
I have a pot that is planted with egeria and one that has some water sprite that I was going to put in. That way the sand don't have to be deep at all. In the other tank the sand is barely deep enough to cover the bottom. That way they can nose around all the way to the bottom. I have found it stays a lot cleaner like that. I usually float some water sprite too.
The tank has a hob filter and bubble bar. It also has a submersible light bar (blue) for night lighting. This way I can keep an eye on them. This is the tank that is right by my bed.
I have some plant weights so I can drop in a few more plants if they need them. All I have right now is water sprite and egeria. I figured I would put the moss on the 2 caves and wood, then let it go where it wants. The other plants are in pots so they can be moved around easily. I have found that for the small tanks I needed them to be portable so I could change things for what was in them at the time.
Guess what I just found... More pepper eggs. My 29g is full of them! I collected about 20 and put in the net. The rest I just left.
I just saw all 3 delphax too! I thought I had lost one. I hadn't seen it in several days. I guess not. They were all sitting there watching me collect the eggs. I didn't care for them much at first, but now they have really grown on me. (they were some of the ones that I was given instead of what I asked for) Now I am glad. They are kind of cool.
I have been calling around, but noone gets live worms. I still have a few places to check though. I am 1 hour from the closest pet shop. I have to go even further to get to a decent one. There are also no fish groups anywhere near here. I have been trying to find one for a long time now. The closest one I found is in Texas. I have finally found 3 people here that are into fish. That is a start...
I have been known to give away small tanks and a few fish just to get people started. Then they get hooked. That is how my sister got started. Now she has 2 tanks and looking for a larger tank.
I am working on my neice now...
