I am very lucky in the fact that my Office overlooks the beech and sea, and it is only a half mile from my house so we quite often walk along the water or high tide line.
Today my daughter and I took a walk although the plan had been to go to the swimming pool but we got there and it was closed and the only way to placate a 4yr old who desperately loves her Thursday swim was to go beech-combing for sharks teeth and unusual shells. Normally the High tide line is full of cockle shells, mussel shells and the odd Oyster half. Today there were thousands of razor clam shells, you normally see a few but they were everywhere, along with a lot of live Oysters? We have extensive mussel and cockle beds, some of which have been over run by Oysters but I have never seen this on the beech.
Did come back with 2 nice big shells for dumping in my FOWLR for the big hermits in there.

You are lucky bud. If I was in your shoes I'd setup a coldwater marine tank full of beadlets.

Yeah I know, I also know that there are a lot of you Midlanders who would love to be so close.

Hey maybe you should have a holiday here in October and house sit and look after my tanks for me when I go to Mexico?

The beeches here are really clean I think it was one of the first places in the UK to get a Blue flag for water quality. I have been told that there is a guy here who keeps a reef tank that he maintains with sea water! I am going to get a sample and see how it tests. I also have contacts with the Port Health people who test every month for water quality and lab test the shell fish for anything nasty.

Your a lucky git!

My nearest beach is brean and it ain't exactly clean!

None of the beaches down here are clean, weston is yuk imo! haha! Bring on the tropical caribbean beach any day ;)

Me too I live on a little Island. You would be suprised with the water quality Weez those clear blue waters aren't very clean in a lot of cases. Some of the beeches here are full of mud so when you get a storm and it all gets stirred up it's a brown, but the water quality is superb. As I say going to test it and see what the params are.

it is just mud

I've been to brean more times than I can remember and I dont think I've ever seen the tide come in.
It's always a half mile walk through a foot of mud and you never make it to the sea! Lol

Somerset sucks!!!

Let us know bud what results you come back with.

I've always been tempted to drive down south and test our seawater for everything.

Then I can tell god he needs to do a wc! Lol

Come on over, the water is warmand salty, surely we can tempt you away from those green terrors :p

I'm about 25 minutes from several beaches, dont go there nearly enough, think I need to put that right :good:

hahah just saving up my money to do it, so expencive live rock for a 4x2x2 :(

yer i live like 45mins from the south coast, wouldnt have a clue what u would find in there

You don't need to get all live rock, you can start out with some live and some dry and eventually if you put the dry with the live it will all become live rock.

The beaches here in the US are pretty much all clean. I'd love to do a coldwater tank with all native animals to Boston Harbor, but chillers ain't cheap :/

I wish it was miricle mud :D more like sludge! haha!

Lyme Regis isn't too bad since they redid the beach, used to my 'local' beach until I moved to Taunton haha!

Woody where abouts are you then? Your right tho somerset does suck haha! Wish the tide came in at weston to wash all those T4 on the beachers away
