ahh just when my guppies had happily settled in...

i have a problem, more likely the fishes problem.. but anyway, my guppies nibble at my plants, - live plants - and im wondering if they have any long term effects, and why they would eat it? cos i feed them everyday -

Are they tearing them apart? They may be picking off little bits - dying parts - and algea. Unless they are really destructive I wouldn't worry about it.

Don't worry about it (unless they're completely tearing them up, like Jams Alaskan said). Many fishies like nibbling at things throughout the day, & plants/the algae growing on them are a great addition to the diet. There are some types of plants that fish do not eat, but I can't think of any at the moment sorry. HTH

theyre not overly destructive but you can see guppy sized bitemarks on my plants, particularilry the twisted shallotish things,
curiously they dont eat leaves that floatr on the surface though,

I've found that having a few extra stems of anacharis or hornwort floating around (they're both fast growing, low-light plants) takes care of the problem. They grow faster than the guppies (and other fish) can nibble them away.

all my fish except the angels nibble my plants, and i got a new baby angel yesterday and he seems to like to nibble too :fun:

hmmm we have a so far unidentified culprit who likes to nibble our plants too....well a lot of our fish nibble but SOMEBODY is leaving big holes in one plant. must taste too good to resist. i try & stop too much munching by putting peas, lettuce etc in out tank regularly but theres still someone who prefers the expensive decorative salad instead of the stuff i want them to eat
