Hi im new to this forum and i am getting bored with my current setup. i am after something different, something that you could prehaps call " weird" lol. I have a tank 12"x29" and it will be emptied to start all over again. i live in the UK and i have rather soft water conditions ( live in Lancashire) and any ideas must be available to buy in the UK. i have been concidering buying a Blue Crayfish however i believe these can not be kept with anything else. is there any way i can keep it with other fish? and would it be happy with soft water? other than that any ideas on an oddball setup for my tank would be appreciated and how i can set my tank up. I currently have an internal fluval filter however i am willing to upgrade if need be. any ideas woud be much appreciated thanks :)

How tall is the tank? something like killifish maybe or like some peacock gobies, shrimps (they might required harder water but i dunno how soft your water actually is), frogs etc, check the oddballs forum theres a pinned acticle about oddballs for small tanks, anti tankbusters i think its called that will give you more than enough info if i remember rightly.

oh rite erm its about 45 cm tall its pritty soft...however i can get hard water if need be cos the local village ( im pritty remote) has hard water. thanks i will look into that thanks for the help. :)

soft water you say? had about an african butterfly fish or two? or an elephant nose? or perhaps a sengal birchir? those are my 3 fav odd balls look them up you need a 30 gallon for the second and third

ps you can keep crayfish with fish just make sure there not slow small delicate bottom feeders or fin nipping or shellfish eating... uhh your choices are very limited with one.

You could get a puffer fish or two in that tank but it is best they are kept alone.

yeah I had one pufferfish as my first fish, there realy neat and they are smart too but ultmatly they fail as an oddball because you cant have that interesting mix of fish, there more of a species tank fish I realy love them though I wish I could keep one in with my fish, what about a black knife fish? they are very strange but you never see them during the day, if you love eel type fish like me i have a hole other list for you

those knife fish sound cool...is a single one ok in a 20g? and yeah i really really really like eels and things like them lol can i please have the other list?...as long as they are not monsters that will outgrow the tank! :D

knifefish cant be kept in 20 gallons... ok well birichirs fire eels are awsome but they need a bigger tank

knifefish can get up to 12+ inches. they will NOT be okay in a 20g aquarium. minimum for a black ghost knife fish is 55 gallon!

a 55 gallon tank (standard size) is 48" long
I believe Ghost Knife fish CAN get up to 20", and up to 24" in the wild. You should have a tank that is 24" wide so he can easily turn around it...

and I think the smallest standard aquarium with a width of 24" is a 90 gallon

and with a 90 gallon, you really should get a stand for it, as it will weigh over 1000 pounds when full, and most furniture cannot take that kind of weight.

well there is no need for a stand as i have a solid oak table which is what my 20g has been sat on for 5 years lol. hmm well do you know where i can get a tank this size from and how much? is anyone selling one in the north west of england? thanks :)

Well, a 20 gallon full only weighs around 225 pounds, and is only 30" long, a 90 gallon is over 1000 pounds full and 48" long... I seriously suggest you make sure that table can hold the weight, as you really don't want 90 gallons of water on your floor!

i have a knife fish in my tank that is 4.5 ft with knife fish you dont nessairly need 55gallons you just need a long tank as they dont move all that much. but would definatly now work well ina 20gal tank :)
