Hi there.

I am currently running a 10g tank that is doing well. The substrate is sand, but I plan on changing it to a gravel or mix of the two in a few days. The tank is newer, and has just cycled. Everyone is doing well.

I have, however had many issues stocking it. It's been a fish soap opera in there. neons have been murdered, tetras bullied. That being said, i'd like to choose some more peaceful fish so I can finally relax!!

Inside my 10g I have:

-One male betta (attacks neons- so they're a no go. other tetras seem to be ok.)
-2 mollies (one female, one male. male has some health issues so a fish that doesnt nip is a good choice.)

Thats it for fish. I also have a ghost shrimp and a dwarf frog, and 2 apple snails.

That being said, I have room for a few more. I don't mind being close to the stock limit because I take good care of my water and there are places to hide with lots of rocks and fake plants.

Preferably, i'd like some non schooling fish the size of mollies or bettas. If this isnt possible or you have a good suggestion on a schooling fish then please let me know.

Thanks! :D

apologies- edit isn't working for me.

I would really love to add some guppies with nice patterns on their tails. I was thinking 3. How would the betta react? Would he attack them?

I do believe that male bettas see almost anything with long fins as "comptetion". I once wanted to try putting mine in with my fancy guppies but several people discouraged me from doing it because of this. I didn't try it, though, I just took their word for it. Maybe someone else here has actual experience with it.

My betta is very unpredictable. He's certainly declared himself king of the tank and swims back and forth flared up for most of the day. Whatever floats his boat I guess. Despite this behavior, he doesn't attack himself in mirrors which makes no sense. This is why im trying to be careful with selections.

He just doesnt make sense :/

May just be me, but personally I think I'd be inclined to leave it the way it is. It's not just about water quality, but about territoriality. You want to make sure your betta has enough space to himself, otherwise he is more likely to get aggressive IMO. With 2 mollies there will already be a certain amount of activity going on in the tank.

I dont think id put the betta with male guppies anyway... You should go to the betta forum on here to ask the experts about that though! Perhaps they would be better to advise you on tankmates
