Hi,
I'm going to be starting up a 140L tank soon and have started thinking about what fish I will keep, this is my first tropical tank but I've been keeping cold water fish for awhile-just decided to try something new. :)
Here's my current ideas:
10 danios (zebra/leopard/turquiose)
10 neon tetras
Some dwarf gouramis (not sure on the number as I'm not sure how many males I keep - I couldn't find any females when I looked at my LFS)
1 bristlenose pleco

Are there any other fish that would be good? I've done a lot of research so know about adding all gradually and fishless cycling etc.
I did think about having corydoras but I decided not to as I would have to have a sand substrate which I'm not very keen on.
Thank you for any help offered. :)

I'd leave out the danios as they like cooler waters and get maybe 6 cories or + 6 neon tetras.

Talltree01 I sorta have to get the danios as I have some from my cold water tank which I'm going to convert to tropical... Plus I like the look them of the lol! I will have the tank around 24-25 Celsius which I read is a good temp for the fish! I was put off cory's because of their need of sand substrate which I don't really want as the person at the LFS advised me not to use it as apparently it will mess up the filter!

I guess they can be in tropical... They will be so active you'll barely see them though. Lol. :D

Yeah cories do do about 300% better with sand so I've heard. it was a good call leaving them out.

:) haha yeah I've noticed that with my danios and thats them in a smaller tank so they will probably be even more active in a bigger tank :) yeah also the cory's were quite expensive when I looked at them at my LFS! I think it was something like $70 for 6 or something!

So what fish have you already got (species, numbers) that will be going in this 140l?
What dimensions does this 140l have?

Permanent 24/25C (mainstream tropical) is not suitable for sub-tropical or temperate fish, the latter will do far better in a heaterless tank in many homes, providing the water does not drop below 15C and on average is ~20C over the year. As the ambient temperature of the house changes through the seasons, the water temp will change, with ~24C being its peak for just a few months. Such fish include...
Zebra/Leopard Danios
White Cloud Mountain Minnow
Paradise Fish
Chinese Barbs
Odessa Barbs
Peppered Corydoras
3-lined Corydoras
Persian Killifish
Blind Cave Tetra
Variatus Platties
Redline Torpedo Barbs
Southern Purple Spotted Gudgeon
etc. etc.

Keeping these temperate fish at tropical temps all year round will knock chunks off their lifespan, Redline Torpedo Barbs will do very well to live beyond 4 years instead of 8, for example.

Oh okay so maybe I shod just keep my danios in my cold water tank? I thought because they were sold as tropical and cold water they could be either but okay :/
Uh I looked and the tank is actually 160L sorry I thought it was 140L but when I looked it said 160L
Here's a link to a website that has the dimensions etc. on it: http://www.hollywoodfishfarm.co.nz/detail/view/blue-planet-atlantis-hpled/m/1015/
I haven't gotten the tank yet but those are my current stocking options although I'm thinking of other fish that are maybe a bit bigger and if I'm not going to have the danios now then that will open the options more :)
Thank you all for your help! :)

How bigs the coldwater tank? It would need to be at least 120 cm long for danios as they're very fast and active. It's good that the tank is 160 liters as in a 140 liter it would be pushing the boundaries of stocking limits a bit. Now that there is some room for more fish I'd suggest a second shoal of tetras. Maybe pristella/ X-ray tetras or something.

Okay I'll do some research about them! Uh the tank is pretty much a nano lol! It was a goldfish starter tank but when I realised the goldfish were better called suicide fish I decided to have some danio! :) it's a 21L I think. I only currently have 1 danio. (I did have more but due to some AlgaeFix gone wrong they all died except this one) :)

If you only have one danio you could rehome him to save the hassle of getting a new tank. Then the 21 liter can be used as a hospital tank.

The only thing is I don't know anyone that would want him lol! Yeah i've thought of using the 21L as a quarintine/hospital tank but I'm not sure i want to keep having to give it ammonia etc. when there isn't any fish in there! I have thought of using it as a nano tank but as it was sold for goldfish it isn't able to have a light. :/ for all I know my current danio could be dead by the time I get my new tank so :/ I might have to keep him in that tank till he does but hmmm I don't really think that's very nice lol! I'll have to think about it!

If you ring a fish shop they might take him for you. As for the 21, You could keep a betta in there permanently .

Talltree01 yeah I recently heard some stuff about bettas which has put me off them! Like that most live for a year at most! So yeah I'll probably just put the tank into storage lol! As for the fish shop I'm not sure if they'll take him just because from their point of view he could be bringing a possible disease in and also I know their water isn't the best - its a all round pet shop like they don't sell just fish, cats, dogs birds etc.
Yeah where I live the closest place that specialises in just fish is three hours away which probably would not be ideal for transporting.
I know there is a gardening place that sells fish would that maybe be worth checking out?

Most die within a year as they are kept in tiny or unfiltered tank - a well looked after Beta usually lives 3-5 years.

Most goldfish die within 3 months but a well looked after one will live 15-20 years easily

Yeah leighton_87 it was something bout how long they take to look good enough to be sold and by then they have like a year to live or something I'm not sure i just heard someone talking about it and how they weren't very ideal fish and are often sold badly (told they can suite small tanks). Yeah my goldfish all lasted 1-6 months. :( when they're in smaller tanks (like my 21L) they are probably better called suicide and I was actually quite angry when the pet shop told me they would keep on dying in this tank because they were the ones that sold it as a "ideal for beginner goldfish keepers" so yeah I switched to danios and yeah I have one danio now that seems rather happy but I probably won't be getting any more! Just tropical fish from now on - once I get my tank and have cycled it

Oh and a person I used to know when I was younger had a tropical tank and had a variety of different fish and one of them was a biggish yellow fish, it was like yellow and had some orange on it, it was a but bigger than her betta so would you have any idea what it's called?
I would imagine it would be compatible with the fish I'm thinking of (neons, dwarf gouramis, pleco and some other sort of tetras) since she had it with neons and some other type of fish that I'm not sure of the name but was smaller than the betta and bigger than her neons, it was like silvery and had black stripes I think? I found the name once but can't remeber it now lol!
So if you know what that yellow-orange fish is called that would be very helpful as I'm thinking of adding it to my stocking list and if I knew the name then I could research on it lol! :)
Thank you for all or your help so far!
