Spawning Attempts Diary

Good luck josh i hope it all goes well with the egg's and dont forget to keep us updated :)

u are floating the tub in the tank so the eggs in the tub stay warm right, and the pic of the tub out on the <<carpet>> was just for the pics?

If you're lucky they should start hatching any time now Josh.....just keep checking :good:

I used to PM Netty every two seconds waiting for mine to hatch! I think its a case of a watched pot never boils! they seem to hatch just as you give up hope and stop starring!

Lol....that's what happens with me too. Just when you think you're not going to get any, you suddenly start spotting the littles tails hanging down.

I'll have to start giving up hope then, may do the trick :p

Cheers!!

FRY!! WE have fry :D :D currently 2 or 3 whizzing about!!! now should I move them or what?

YAY.....wrigglers. Congrats Josh. Just leave them where they are for the next couple of days. They will live off their eggs sacks until then. Now you need to get the feeder culture of VE on the go so that you have some ready in a couple of days time :good:

Thanks Netty and Tilly, I feel proud of the little bettas  horny buggers jumping a divider too!!! I'll leave them be then, should I wait a little longer to see if more eggs hatch too? or remove them now? funny you should say that lol, just did the VE feeder culture! think my feeder bottle may be a bit large though, theres not much left in the mother culture

They arent moving around much...is that normal for newborns? Cheers :)

Leave the eggs just in case any more decide to hatch out. They don't move that much at first. Under normal conditions they would be hanging vertical from the nest and then free swimming at 2 days old so they won't move much yet.

Don't worry about not having much mother culture left....you'll only need to feed VE for the first week. Just top up your mother culture with more apple cider vinegar and pure apple juice and leave it.

Good luck with your babies :good:

Thankyou so much for all your help Netty, at least it wasnt all wasted and we got a result :D theres a few bubbles around outside of hte tub which ive spotted a few more fry attaching themselves to! This is where the work begins lol, time to set up a tank for them :)

Will do as you say with VE, I don't think these little guys will show up on pics, but I'll try and get some :good:

No probs Josh....I just sooo glad you got some babies :good:

Once the tank is ready that you're going to put them in.....I would start adding really small amounts of water from it to the tub first to acclimatize the little ones before putting them in and make sure the water isn't too deep. About 5" will be fine.

Can't wait for some pics if you manage to get any.

Netty - you know you told me to have a 10 gallon breeding tank, and as big a grow out tank as possible. Would the 4 gallon tank i have now do for the grow out tank?
