Sophos9 - Planted Tank Journal

Would just like to add that my algae problem is seriously clearing up!!

Everyday the algae is getting less, which is great... Dosing macros / micros has really increased the growth rate of the plants. The riccia is growing like mad (and hiding some zebra danio fry  )

Thanks for all the algae bustin' tips :hyper:

Kicking algae`s arse sure is satisfying!

Did I recommend Flourish Excel to you? I know I did it to someone recently and mentioned Vallis didn`t like it. I forgot to mention that shrimps can`t tolerate overdosing.

Sorry, Dave.

dude, my vallis is melting!!!!

The shrimps are all dead.... May stop using it and use flourish instead, see what happens to the algae

Was just interested in a small trial, if I do away with the Excel and just dose macro/micros.... What will happen to the algae -_-

Especially as I have loads of fast growing stems....

A large mass of fast growing stems has sorted out all the algae issues in my tank.

Dave.

About the white spot.I've found that clown loaches can easily get it,and spread it round your hole aquarium so every fish will die, even with treatment.I really really think you should qaurantine that fish...

Hi, I've had several whitespot outbreaks in my other tank and I agree that once the parasite goes free swimming the other fish will get infected. Every whitespot outbreak I have had has never resulted in a dead fish... The chances are that if the infested fish has been introduced, the tank will need treatment

Just thought I would post an update on the plants...

The elodia densa has grown over 2inches in a 14hour period and is now the full height of the tank, strangely approx 45% of the growth occurred over night.
The Riccia is out of control, the entire surface is now covered in thick (1/2inch) green Riccia.
The hygrophilia has been sprouting new plants everywhere

and.... the vallis is melting!

Groovy stuff now everything is working...

I hate this computer, I can't type anything with this thing. Well anyway. Did you recently dose excel or are running increased CO2 in this tank? Vallis might be one of those plants...

Otherwise, it's great that things are working for you. Yes, egeria is a weed. You'll get prettier colored growth if the temperature is reduced, but you'll have to ask your fish first. It is essentially a coldwater plant. The growth becomes paler as the temperature increases. My outside egeria is a dark blue green, very attractive.

Nice one!

I noticed my Egeria Densa grew over night with the lights out.

Cheers!

Hi, yea I've started dosing Excel and am sure its the cause (and my shrimps BAH). The egeria will only stay in until such time that I have introduced more exotic plants and the whole setup has stabilised. My tank temp is about 27C...

Oh and on the Excel subject, I'm stopping using it to see what happens to the algae...!

Cheers mate! Did you have any shrimp?

Just planted an additional 40 stems last night... that's it, cannot really fit any more in!

Will get a pic on Sunday after the 50% water change!

Cannot believe this, got home and my Queen Arabesque has died, totally totally gutted.... She was beautiful!

No marks or anything at all that would explain what happened to her  :rip:
