Sometimes this forum is lonely...

Things are getting expensive in the UK. Once upon a time, something that was £100 pounds is now nearly £200. Food is not cheap like it used to be.
Generally, things in the US are cheap. There's lots of land so houses are cheap. A large house with 6 bedrooms in the US could be a relatively small flat in the UK, maybe even a studio.
We have our share of inflation too. Housing prices are up about 100k dollars!
 
The London area is quite expensive, further north property is cheaper. My son has just sold his 3 bedroom house in a more expensive part of the north for a bit under £300K (and 20K more than the estate agent said he was likely to get). Last year our other son bought a 2 bedroom flat (apartment) for under £100K, and although it's still under 100K, it's now worth a bit more.

But house prices are expected to rise in this part of the country as the government is moving a lot of departments from London to Darlington. All those Londoners wanting new homes.......

Near to Imperial College in London, a studio would sell for 425k😳
