Something Mods And Older Members Can Improve On

You boys are so touchy :hyper:

We're all members actually.
ATM may not have worded his original post in the clearest way - but he wasn't telling anyone to do anything - he was asking the more experienced members to consider whether or not they could answer more posts.

If you don't want to do that - then don't!

Some of us (and I'm not saying it's just the girls :hey: ) feel that he has a point and we will probably try to do better. The fact that any member feels there's a problem is a shame and is worth considering without getting on your high horses. The fact that 23,850 members aren't moaning is a sign of apathy - not happiness.

And boboboy - stop throwing your toys out of the pram. It's quite acceptable to quote parts of a post - to indicate which part you're referring to. It actually makes long threads much easier to read. If you think that this is mis-representing your case - then make your point again, in a different way.

.......... it seems the high tech have there own group and same with the low-tech and a lot of that is money as the high tech setups cost a lot.

Hi-tech doesn't have to be expensive, and those with money also enjoy low-tech.

Interesting thread BTW. If I had the time I'd write a lot more. That's irony for you......

I'v got to say as far as i am concerned George is brilliant in the planted tank section has given me loads of advice and usually ony steps in if you haven't already got a decent answer form some one else. :good:

I understand what you're saying but like when you see the same topics over and over again in one day you get frustrated because theres a search button only a few clicks away and they decide they will ignore that and make a topic asking people something too stupid to be described. && then there are the people who go 0mahgash lykez mai b3tta 1sn'7 33ting. Wut shud 1 du? which makes you assume right away they're an idiot. and not all old members have a lot of experience. I've been on here for quite a bit now but I've taken long breaks and stuff and I'm still only a kid so I only know about like 1/10th of the stuff about a certain subject so you can't expect all oldies to answer everything

''I understand what you're saying but like when you see the same topics over and over again in one day you get frustrated because theres a search button only a few clicks away''

exactly.. the search function is the most underused thing here.

Having been at TFF for over 2 years, I can agree that this board is always evolving as the membership increases. Many of the same posts DO occur over and over and, even this question comes up from time to time.

Just like in the real world, this forum has a broad membership. We have kids, adults, people rough around the collar and other wonderful mods and members that will spend hours tending to ONE member's issues. Again, some form cliques and others, to my dismay, require actions to protect others here.

We all go thru an evolution here. Similar to others, I started off in FW, killed a few fish through ignorance, learned, became informed and the moved off into SW. Hey...even got a nano section started. My first post here was ignored. But....1 or 2 members swooped down and they became my 'gurus'. So, after over 2 years here, I focus on SW but, yes, I DO post an occasional welcome note to a newb AND take time to answer an ich or cycle question.

My recommendations:

1) Stay with the areas that you are comfortable with, have experience in and be open to supportive criticism
2) If you need help in an area, find a 'guru' or someone who has the patience to help you. Not everyone does...either here or in the RW
3) As you gain experience, remember where you came from. If everyone here with experience answered just one noob question a day, we'd be great
4) Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Proud to be a mod at TFF.

Well put :good: you've inspired me along with other members to go SW, expensive but keeps me busy so far.

4) Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. - always a good thing to remember

Personally I would add...

5) If you ask for advice, listen to the advice you're given

Amen to that, I'v learned that people here know more than lfs employee, which is what people tell you here.

I'm really happy with the help i get here, i know who to ask for help on what subject if i need it. Like it's been mentioned before i'd rather have someone i trust 100% on a subject than someone who doesn't.

The people i will always go to first if i need help because they have a lot of expierence and knowledge in the matter i need help with are these. I don't know if this what you mean by a group?

SW - SH, Ski, Mr M
Corys - Inchworm
Bettas - Wuv , synirr
Plecs - Smithrc
Angels - tolak

I'm sure everyone who has been on this forum a while knows who to go to for help that's why no-one uses the begginer section no more.

I'm sick to hell with 'Can my clown loaches live happily in this 10G' sure but then if i go back to my first few posts here they are pretty much along the same line.

This forum goes around in a big circle and it works fine, there is not a better forum anywhere.

I came here asking about clown loach etc and then when i was told by someone i then passed it on to the next bunch of 'newb's then i got fed up myself of saying 'no' so moved on into the areas i was interested in BUT what happens is the people you've told then pass it on to the newbs and it just goes on and on like that.

It's like telling off a footie fan on a sports forum for not posting in the rugby section, it would be a waste of forum space if they did because we don't even understand the rules :p
