Ok guys my dad has a new 3ft tank, upgraded from a 60l. It's about 110l i think from memory, sand bottom, live plants and bogwood. Got an external and also the internal running at the moment to ensure the external gets up and running properly.

So the stocking he has so far: 3 ballon mollies, 2 lyre tail mollies and 2 other mollies, and 3 swordtails. Temp is at 28C at the moment.

Basically he wants some sort of catfish/plec and also a shoal of something. Can you guys recommend something for him. He likes my harlequin rasboras and would like something along those lines i think.

Thanks guys

for shoaling take a look at x-ray tetra and for pleco get a bn or a oto

why not try bristlenose catfish ansistrius sp
you can get young quite cheap and if you get a breeding trio 1male 2female then you might get young like me :hyper: the will rasp off lhe bowood but will require some hiding places

the temps a little high about 25 would be better
harlequin rasbora will be fine. most smaller tetra and rasbora will work. dwarf neon rainbow fish will work aswell.
catfish
upside down catfish
banjo
twig
whiptail
bn plec
clown plec
corys
will all work

maby a pair of apisto, keyholes or bolivian rams

and if the tanks 18"+ then angelfish will work.

i was thinking bout getting a betta with them but justb cant trust lol

Ok the tank is 16 inches so just a bit short for angels.

Was thinking maybe an upside down catfish yeah they are cool. Do they need any special requirements food wise etc?

As for a plec would a gold nugget be ok cos i've seen them in one of the LFS for £12 for a small one. I don't know if it'd get too big.

Do you guys know much about blue tetra cos i've heard conflicting things about them, some saying they need a large tank and are aggressive, others saying they are suitable for community.

I'd like to get him something colourful that isn't silvery, black or orange if possible.

i had a golden nugget v. sensitive to water quality + oxygen levels needs lots

Ah ok definately a no no then cos we're relative newbies so something easy to keep. I love Zebra Plecs but don't want to shell out £50 on a fish when i don't feel confident enough.

And if i told my dad once today Bala sharks are bad idea i told him a hundred and once lol

Thanks Cossie but yeah they aren't really something that'd interest him. I'm thinking maybe lemons or bloodfins?

not sure about the blue tetra, but have you thought about cardinal or neon tetras? they look great in a big shoal and are not at all aggressive. as for the catfish, i'd go for a group of otocinclus or a couple of bristlenose, but the bristlenoses have been known to damage certain plants such as the broad leaved Echinodorus species. having said that, with adequate feeding they should be fine.

cheers :good:

Hmmmm if gouramis are gonna be ok then yeah i'd be tempted to get him some, any type gonna be better to go with?

I've had otos in the past and they are cool but the tank is new and has little to no algae. So neon tetra would be a problem too cos the tank isn't mature
