Hi all.

I have a 10gal tank i want to add some mystery snails in. Is it necessary ot have a heater and filter for them?

They generally like tropical conditions 21-28C. Other then that they are happy anywhere if they are not happy then they will just move on and you won't see them again until you step on them. You can keep 2 full size apple snails in a 10 gallon. Filter is not that important bt if you have a 10 gallon surely you would want more stocking then just 2 snails.

I have a ten gallon tank with two apple snails, have always used a filter and heater though.I think it would be a good idea for you to use both.

Jon :good:

If the room doesn't get too cold I wouldn't bother with a heater. Filter isn't necessary with water changes, but would be nice.

I wouldnt bother with the heater but apples being very messy I would remcommend a filter. Just make sure its not to powerful to suck the snail into it.

with my baby snails, i have raised with a heater and filter. i recommend both with a tank, mysteries can produce a decent amount of waste depending on how much they are fed.

what do you feed your snails, i have giving mines only salad pieces and spinage :p

Hey.

Heating: Colder water will make snails enter in a ''sleepy mood'' and it will make them very slow and inactive. Try to avoid temparatures below 18°C/65°F beacuse the mortality rate will increase. Warmer waters will make your snails a bit faster and more active. They will eat faster, creep around faster and eventually grow faster. If you want your snails to reproduce you defenetly need warm water and a lot of food. I would place a heater in you tank

Filter: is not that important if you only have a few snails. If you are going to put fish (or already have) i would put on a filter. snails don't make a lot of mess, just make sure to do regular water change... Good luck!!!! ;) :good:

I have to disagree, snails make a lot of mess. Apple snails in particular are crap machines.

Yep have to agree with T here, i have 3 apple snails in a 180ltr tank and they seem to make more mess than the 3 BN's the reside in the tank, obviously smaller mess but seems a hell of alot more lol

Choose your clean up crew well and you will rarely see detritus, I have sand and only vaccuum once a month as it doesn't need doing any more often.
