Sleepy Hollow

well...bit of a bad day!

The APS had given up the ghost last night, i didn't notice til late this morning. I tried everything to revive the filter, but to no avail. I'm not sure what happened to it!

I had to nip out and get a brand new filter!

I have bought a Hydor prime 30, and all i can say is OMG what a filter! The flow on the thing is absolutely amazing, the media capacity is only 5L but it holds more than the APS. I don't know why i didn't buy one in the first place, an amazing filter. Very impressed.

Yep good choice my APS buggered up to I got a fx5 and then realised how crud my APS was compared lol

How much was it Ian?

I have 2 gripes with the APS filter, the in hose doesn't go all the way to the bottom of the filter, and it's AWFUL to prime!

Good good, I have a 20 sitting in it's box ready for the stream scape, wicked little filters and great value for money, picked up my 20 for £35.

I feel the same also, the flow rate on the APS was rubbish. It did start well, but a few weeks down the line it became really poor, maybe 2-300 lph max. No matter how many times i cleaned it, removed media, the flow was still poor. I'm still in ore of this filter, i really am.

It was £59, which isn't a bad price at all.

I have to agree with that Cazzie, but again the main gripe when looking at this new filter is the flow.

Yeah, I've noticed the flow has decreased on mine, at first I assumed it was increased plant mass. If it conks out I won't be replacing it with another APS, I'll be going a different external route - maybe a Hydor will be the way to go ;)

I went out to East Bridgeford MA a couple of days ago and they have a brilliant plant selection at the moment. Anyways heres a few shots of the leaves in my tank lol!

Ludwigia paustris 'red'. This was from Bridgeford, and is a lovly specimenn!

Nice collection of images Ian, is MA at East Bridgeford the store that Mark Evans did a scape for? Might have a nip down there some time.

yes it was the shop Mark did that scape, the tank has another scape now. Not as good, but not bad. The plant selection is great, Jack. They have 4 holds for the plants. Probably about 8 foot long and 3 foot wide each hold. They are full of different plants. The shop is concentrating on plants now. Theres not much in the way of stock, but hey, they make up for it in plants. All aquafluer and 4 for a tenner on every plant!

well worth the trip :good:

What's the fish stock diversity like? Any rarities? I think I'll go down Sunday afternoon.

nothing out of the ordinary, they had some tropical perch (they grew to 20cm). That was about it. The rest were you're basic tetras, gouramis etc etc. As i say though, it's worth it just for plants. :good:

That costata leaf doesn't look like costata to me lol, I may be wrong but last time I had it, it looked a lot like dwarf sag leaf structure, I may be wrong but that's strange. Looking healthy dude.

it's a costata leaf Steve, believe me! lol, i'm not gonna big the ADA ferts up, but things look a lot greener!
