. If I can be honest, the camerawork was mostly the camera, not me . I just set the thing on auto and took as many pics as I could 
. Taking pics while diving certainly has its challenges and I'm happy these came out as well as they did.
The patch-reefs up along the lower gulf coast as you say are OK. Just down to the keys and you can go see some really nice ones. If I may suggest, try Amoray Divers off Key Largo. They generally go out on the shallower reefs (~20') in the north end of the island and take snorkelers on their boats all the time. Definitely one of the better snorkeling trips I've taken. You can also do some good snorkeling off Key Biscayne which would be a little closer to home albeit not that much after the trip across the everglades
