I think my shubunkin is laying eggs, what do i need to do now?

Breeding fish isnt easy also its very expensive. YOu have to feed them freshly hatched brine shrimp as soon as their born and then an expensive liquid etc. Unless youve already read up on it, but its not always easy. Also you cant just breed them and keep them all youll have to cull some or youll end up with too many. If your really up for it and know what your doing then you could use a fry mop and see if any eggs catch on it. How large is your tank and how many fish?

goldfish fry will hatch in 2 to 3 days and become free swimming within 3 days after that ,they need high protien starter foods i use micro worms they have a higher protien content than brine shrimp and they are smaller . Start feeding them food like that as soon as they take their first surface breath about 3 days after hatching as that first breath activates thier swimbladder so they become free swimming
Ive got my 1 week old goldfish/shubunkin/fancy/comet fry in a tank away from the parents in the pond to raise them and they are doing very well

Do you have any microworms at all

I would try and get the eggs or fry once the eggs have hatched into a different tank. Just a small 3UK G one for the moment. Raising and breeding fish can take up alot of time and money so please bare this in mind. If you do not want to go along with riasing them keep the eggs in the same tank and the bigger goldfish and they should eat them or let nature take its cause. Any how you can sometimes get away with feeding them some tetra baby food but half the time new hatch brine shrimp is better. One big enough you can put back with the bigger goldfish.

Hope you have some good luck with this. Goldfish breeding it hard (or so I have heard)

i don't think it takes alot of time and money at all
Microworms are highly prolific breeders so you end up with loads of food and a starter culture is about 2 pound i'll even give you a culture and you feed 3/4 times a day that don't take long either and water changes arent time consuming either because of the small tank and water volume so i dont really see why your saying that it probably takes me in total half an hour a week including feeding 3/4 times a day and water changes and testing

Sorry mate,

only going by what I have heard and been told. I got told it wasnt worth breeding goldfish and they do take alot of money and space/time up. So I must of been told the wrong info... Again sorry
