should i do this?

the water caries barely any benefial bacteria, your better off nabbing gravel or filter media from your current tank.

about the ehiem tanks we don't stock them either and there quite a bit more than the Juwels mainly because they come with great filters. Although the price only seems to jump up real high on the bigger models, up to the karat 120 (240l) the prices are about the same as juwel then with the karat 121 (360l) the prces jump pretty high probably becuase it comes with a pro2 filter and the ones before come with eccos or classics.....sorry to nick your topic coral_platty

I can nick the booklet we have and scan a few pages in for you.

I have decided to get my angels first as they are not as dear as discus so they can set the tank off again.
It ok i dont mind people talking to others about what they sell and that.
I will be having some more water filtered and maturede by xmas.
that will be from my 1.5 foot tank and from a 2 foot tank.
so hopefully i will have anough water to fill half the tank.
My dad says that angels will live happily with discus.
It must be true as they are both ciclids.
I cannot wait for my new tank.
And i know paul cannot either.

just to re-itterate, you cannot build up beneficial bacteria just using the water. You must either mature the filter in another tank first, or put the filter pads from your new tank in a current tank. Other than this you can add gravel as already suggested..

I know what i am doing.
There will be a fluval 3 in my current tank now.
Then when xmas comes the fluval 3 along with the juwel filter will be running in the rio. This way the new filter will attract bacteria.
There will also be water fom my old tank(s) Going in to help this out.

Well you say you know what you are doing, yet you said " will be having some more water filtered and maturede by xmas." Which to me still seems to suggest you think "maturing" water actually helps, so I thought I would re-itterate the advice...

i have decided to not have discus :( But i will be having golden angels. :fun: YAY

having discus would put a lot of extra work on your hand to keep them nice and healthy, You also have to find a shop with descent stock which isn't as easy as it sounds!

The shop i work at introduce new discus to a different tank to the main stock which then usually hide behind the filter for a week or 2 which is usually the time we keep them before selling. The discus get fed 2-3 times daily on frozen foods. and have water changes every 4-5 days, which takes a while as we add the new cold water over a period of time. and have the lights turned out during thr water change when there first introduced to keep stress down, then once they come out from hiding there more interested in feeding than getting scared from water changes!!

Over all your saving yourself from a lot more dedication into the hobby. With them you wouldn't beable to get away with putting off water changes for another week or so.

On the other hand, I'm going to take home a few angels next weekend aswell :)

I agree, any fish needs good care but discus really do need well looking after and a specific environment, I would say there more for the experienced fish keeper, sorry if you are an experienced keeper, just pointing the raw facts out. :)
