Setting Up The 29g. Totally Psyched I Have Saltwater In My Living Room

I went out and bought a few things:
1)super glue
2)airline tubing to replace the old stuff on the skimmer and to have more for drip acclimation
3)a magnifying glass

My counters look dirty
Keep in mind I took the close up pics through the magnifying glass. It worked REALLY well...besides making my counter look really dirty

This is the cracked piece and the one after is the crack in the piece.

This is a pump on the skimmer. This piece goes on that little knob to the left of the other hose on the pump. The part that's cracked is the one that slides onto the knob of the pump.

*** bought the super glue at the $1 store for $1!!! Magnifying glass was $4.50 and the airline tubing was $2.00=$7.50 for the supplies on this trip.

Oh yeah KJ, fear not. Superglue gel will be your best friend on this marine adventure. It's totally reef-safe. In fact it's totally people-safe too (unless you're one of the rare 0.001% of people allergic to it). Superglue gel (cyanoacrylate) is the same stuff that's in "new skin" commonly used by bowlers to limit abrasions from bowling ball thumbs. It's also commonly medically sterilized and used to seal pesky wounds that can't be stitched in hospitals. In fact when I chopped my thumb up with a side-cutting bit of a dremmel tool and couldn't be stitched, in the ER they cleaned it, poured superglue all over it, and covered it up. Then when I almoast threw up from the pain the stupid PA asked me if I wanted something for the pain... Were I not near tears I would have killed him and told him that would have been nice 10 minutes earlier!

But I digress... Good choice for your project.

Wow. What an ordeal, Ski

Well i have water in it. Have it about 1/3 full and then running to lfs for 16 more gallons of RO water. Going to test equipment(skimmer, heater, koralia) and if all goes well will start washing sand tonight. When the sand is sorted I'll add salt to start making my own little ocean. I've decided my first I'll have will be a yellow watchman goby. I may get it at the same time as CUC or get it before. We'll see. I'm off to get more water.

ps. pics later.

Here's a pic of the tank partially filled with the skimmer hanging on the back.

Video of my loud obnoxious skimmer -_- Not making to many bubbles either ????

It's loud/noisey. Not sure what to do :dunno:

It was suggested that the skimmer will not work correctly in freshwater so I dumped 8 cups of Reef Crystals salt mix in the tank. It looks like it snowed!! lol. I'll let that sit for awhile (powerhead and skimmer on to help mix it) and check the salinity after awhile. I read mixing a 1/2 cup to a gallon is standard, but I went on the light side. Easier to add a bit more salt than having to pull water out to put more R/O in, imo.

Well I can't upload the picture of snow b/c photobucket says the action has failed...over and over and over. Try again later

SG at 1.015 right now w/8cups of salt added. Will add a bit more. Photobucket still not uploading :(

There must be a problem with it. That'd be a good explanation if it's not just 1 person that's having issues.

The tank is at sg 1.025 now.

From the beginning.

1)put in 8 cups got 1.015
2)added 4 more got 1.020
3)added 3 more got 1.025

I emailed a friend asking if he has any LR to sell.

The pumps from the skimmer are soaking in vinegar/water to get the calification off. I was told to clean the pumps good, make sure there's not any build up anywhere and if it still makes a racket then chances are I need a new pump.
