I just tried to search for threads titled '60 liter'. It threw up every thread with liter in the title. So I tried searching for just '60' but that returned no results? Is there a way to perform this search?
And what happened to that feature where similarly titled threads came up at the bottom of each page? I liked that.

I would guess it's to do with not being able to search things under 3 letters, or that there were just too many results for it to deal with. You could try using Google's thing where it searches one particular website, i.e put site:www.fishforums.net 60 litre into Google. Not brilliant but better than nowt.

The similar topics bit was, thankfully, dumped because it meant hundreds of ancient threads were ressurected for no reason whatsoever.

if you use "Advanced search", and click "show posts", though you get lots of results, you can review, quickly, and identify posts, of interest. you can also select the section of the forum, even the members who post. reducing, further, the results.

thing is, if you search "60 litre" on any search engine, it will give you the same results, as the forum search would. you need to refine your questions. i know its a pain, but, how else could it work?

put it this way. i was looking to find the cost of, adopting a cat, from the RSPCA. i but "cat adoption costs RSPCA". then tried " RSPCA charges, in Goggle. it still took 10 minutes, and trawling through a few pages, to find the answer . and the question was simple.

How it could work is it could just give me results with 60 and liter in the title, like I asked. Instead I got everything with liter in the title. I shouldn't have to trawl though posts about 10l, 200l, 450l tanks etc to find ones about 60l tanks that I want. It didn't recognise the 60 at all. If I googled 60 liter at least I'd only get relevant results.
I don't seem to have advanced search. There's just the one link, top right, 'search'. That takes me to a form. I put 60 liter in the box 'find words' and ticked 'search in titles only'. I left it at all forums, then clicked 'perform the search'.
I can see how to sort the results by time and a-z, but nothing else?

unfortunately, you will always get that if you input tanks sizes. problem is, as i mentioned, the parameters are too broad.(tank sizes are mentioned, even when they are not relevant to the thread) i see your point that the forum search does not, seem to see numbers. even so, how hard is it to filter threads that are talking about tanks, of other sizes? whilst i understand its a pain, research always is, there is also the fact, most, wont put the tank size, in the title.

remember, Goggle have spent Billions, refining the algorithm for their search engine. TFF is not so well off. one compromise we have to make, is the search here. whilst you may not get the answer you expected, with work, the information is there. problem is that word "work". no way around that.:hyper:

Seems to work much better if you put "60 litre" in, including the quotation marks. Of course, you're still going to get lots of irrel stuff because it's a fairly common thing to write, so you should probably add something else like
+stocking or whatever you're looking for.
