I've heard a lot of bad things about the Seaclones but my LFS has said to get it as I can get one secondhand on eBay quite cheap. I'm confused as I would be buying the Aquamedic Biostar from them and they're telling me not to

Please give me some guidance as I don't want to waste money buying the wrong thing.

The eBay auction ends in about 36 hours so speedy opinions/replies would be nice :)

I have a seaclone on my 55 gal and it does a fine job... so it will be more than enough for a 40 gal. The seaclone keeps itself pretty clean and I use it in the hang-on configuration. Any accumulation forms on the the cup itself and not the skimmer.

seaclones work but the aquamedic's are much much much more efficient and you have the biowheel as well. I'd say the aquamedic every time.

ste :)
