Seachem Ammonia Alert

if you look after your tanks well you will not need it.

i havent tested my tank water for about 6 months, but i know that it is fine. not lost a single fish/shrimp etc..

the only thing that worries me is the water company 'flushing' the pipes.

iv seen a few stuck on the side of demo tanks in our local fish shop, if they use them im guess they would work.

they dont, you can ring them and say that you keep very expensive tropical fish and that you use tap water to clean them out. ask them to notify you when they clean the pipes. im thinking of doing so myself.

What's the low-down on the water companies flushing the pipes? How can it harm our fish?

It is really quite simple. Whenever the pressure in the pipes gets very low, they add extra chlorine a a precaution against water leaking in through any leaks into the pipes. That is not a problem for you or I drinking the water but can kill your fish. A flush, as such, is not something that I have heard of them doing unless they had fixed a leak and wanted to get any ground water out of the repaired pipes.
