Rhy's Juwel Rio 125L Tropic To Marine Attempt!

Nice! I guess it's probably a clam skeleton? I've been looking up marine clams and they all seem to have some kind of colourful 'lip' sticking out. Mine just looks like a rock (there are actually 2 of them on the torch coral).

Decided I want to move the mushroom coral over to the little white bridge piece of rock (think they will look cool growing over there). Was reading up on it and they seem like ridiculously hardy guys. Apparently if you cut them in pieces you will just get new shrooms growing from the pieces! Anyways I read that the best way to move them is to put the rock by a powerhead (make them uncomfortable) and then gently nudge them with a blunt object and then they should pop off. Then place them on the desired rock, wrap in bridal veil (or the net bag that fruits come in) and leave for a day or two and they should be attached! Is that right?

What mushrooms you talking about Rhy, I dont remember seeing any in your tank

I havent really taken a good pic of them yet lol. They're the same colour as the rock they're one!

Close up of the zoanthids opening up! I love the colours! Some are orange, others are bright green! PLUS the coral frag was on sale!!!! so it was a bargain!!! Got some snail looking things with the frag though that I only noticed after a bit, didnts get any pics but they looked like slugs (no shells), hope they aren't harmful!

1 frag torch coral
1 frag kaleidoscope zoanthids [new]

Ah right, I see them now  In my experience they are easy to move but less easy to stick to where you want them to be - they often go walk about and then you never see them again  If it were me I would leave well alone, they look nice all together

Grand, will do. For now it seems like they are actually moving towards the rock I want them on by themselves! My sand is now getting a lot of green macro algae (plus a nice green algae tinge eeeek), glass has some brown stuff still, but overall, looks like the tank is coming into it's own.

I have bought 4 blue legged hermit crabs so far and I have PHYSICALLY taken out the very blue bodies of two dead hermit crabs. To my surprise, this evening there were 3 blue legged hermit crabs prancing about! Have NO idea where the 3rd guy came from!!!

Tonight was pretty exciting:
1) the Torch opened up WAYYY more so I was super happy

***2) The clam thingy in the middle of the torch isnt dead, its a clam!!! It's started to open and then shut very quickly, then open slowly, shut quickly etc every 2 minutes or so!!! Any ideas what kind of clam it could be? I had no intentions of having a clam lol, now I have TWO on my torchie! Are they easy to keep??? From what I can see, its fairly white coloured inside (no pretty colours like the ones in the lfs)

***3) Saw a HUGE sneaky crab under some of my rock, never noticed it before. It was about 1", it was very hairy, and had black and white striped legs! Got a few pics that I'll post tomorrow. I hope its reef safe/invertebrate safe :(

4) Got pics of the two slug like things, Turns out they do have a kind of shell, its irridescent. Anyways they look like slugs. Again, I'm hoping they aren't harmful. Will post pics and see if I can get an ID!

5) Noticed that on the rock with the shrooms, there are loads of these purple little flower things (look like the heads of pulsing xenia, but very purple), kind of excited by that, new coral perhaps?

6) The kalaedoscope zoanthids opened up a good deal more!

One more question for you guys, I got sailfert's coral food, putting 3- 4 drops into the tank at the moment, only thing is that the bottle doesnt say how often to feed. How often do you guys feed your corals?

Rhy

1) Cool, they are amazing aren't they

2) Double cool, there are many hundreds types of molluscs, you may never know which it is

3) You men, what are you like. 1 inch is not huge  take a look at his claws and describe them to us, does it have a paddle like tail?

4)Probably stometella, good guys mostly

5) Probably stars :good:

6) Cool

I wouldn't put anything in the tank at the moment - the corals you have dont need it

Seffie x

Wow you were bang on with the stomatella! Looks like I have 2 stomatella varia! Nicely done, getting the ID right just from the description!

Also found ANOTHER dead crab in the tank today! Second one so far! It was yellow and extremely hairy (see below). No idea where it came from!

The starry things. Don't know why, but they didnt come out too good with the flash, and without the flash u can hardly see them cause the rock is the same colour!

Tank is going along nicely.

That's a bad crab you had there  Looks like a teddybear from that angle... They like to eat things you don't want them to eat.

Yikes! How do I get him out???
I read about the trap with the bacon and the bottle but he's hiding right at the bottom of the tank, I doubt he'd be able to climb into the bottle trap :(

Rhy

Hey guys!!!

So I still haven't gotten that bad crab :( BUT I got some new FRIENDS!!!! CHECK IT OUT!

Clove coral

Your tank is coming along so nicely mate, you must be pleased! I absolutely love the clove and zoas, very nice  What other corals are you looking at getting.

Can I ask, if you dont mind sharing, how much did you pay for the clove and zoas in the previous pics?

James

Cheers James! Yeah I'm pretty excited with how its coming along!!!

I was SOOOO tempted to buy a goniopora but I read the archived coral of the week threads and I guess it makes no sense.
There was a pretty good looking trumpet coral that I think might look mighty fine on the rock to the left. Also maybe a jasmine clove coral for the top of my plateau rock... there are soooo many corals I want lol!

Im in Ireland, so I paid 50euro for the zoas, 45euro for the clove!

Hey guys,
