Rhy's Juwel Rio 125L Tropic To Marine Attempt!

Where's your chaeto currently? I've got mine in a modified aquaclear filter refugium. Definitely high flow.

My cheato is probably in the worst possible area at the moment, I put it into the empty jewel canister filter compartment with a small lamp and a single piece of air tubing to keep it aerated. I also run my carbon and phosphate remover in there because I still run the pump so there's moderate flow going through the canister. It's just not enough light nor flow to make the cheato truly be beneficial in nutrient exchange. I should be harvesting cheato every 2 weeks which is definitely not the case. SO it's gonna go into the main tank in a discrete location, and hopefully that will help even out the stats.

love your tank mate.. i have a rio 125.. how much live rock did it take to create your aquascape.. its amazing.. i think i bought too much..mine looks overcrowded

Not sure that I'd go with a lower color temperature if you want those zoanthids to retain those crazy colors. I originally had a 10k MH, I then switched to a 14k. The difference in color is very evident. Once growth in my tank is where I want it, I may switch to a 20k and watch my eyes bleed. LOLOL

A long break from the updates!
Apologies, I've been working very hard but good news! I've moved house!!! and even better news =>

I've UPGRADED! thats right! Everything will be moving to a 230l (60G) Blau Gran Cubic tank with built in SUMP to boot!

Very excited, will post piccies later. Just got the tank home, filled it with salt water and testing out the sump pump return (trying to match the overflow) = VERY frustrating but for the last 2 hours things have been steady (after 3 trips to the fish store to return pumps and get slower ones).

I've just put some coarse dead coral bits into the sump (think coarse sand) and 3 pieces of live rock into the new tank. Gonna head over to the old place and try and get things into bags etc. I've a bad feeling I'm gonna loose A LOT of stuff :(

Fingers crossed. Dunno how I'm gonna move my rock with corals attached etc (as most of my corals are puttied on to the rock and most of the rock is puttied on to itself) so will be a bit of a job alright. Not to mention the catching the fish and rest of livestock (snails/crabs/anemone/shrimp/etc)

Right so I bought the tank, filled it with water and got 3 piece of live rock.

The live rock was in bags with NO WATER for about 2 hours

I put the rock in the COLD COLD salt water, and put a heater in to start heating the water

GUESS WHAT

----> A FISH JUST POPPED OUT OF THE LIVE ROCK! #136###????? So basically it survived inside of the rock for 2 hours with NO WATER, and is somehow no swimming around my new tank all happy, even though the temperature is still a freezing 22 degrees.

WEIRD

Taking a photo of the fish now, don't know what it is or how it survived and dunno if I will keep him, still have all my own fish to transfer over lol

>>>> its a black yellow tailed blenny or a bi-coloured blenny, not sure. Either way don't think he'll get along with my algae blenny. what do you guys think? think the tank is big enough for both of them???

WoW! Quite the trip for that little fish lol. He was probably pretty happy to have water again.

I'd say you would be ok, but I don't think they get along with their own kind unless they are paired =/. You can try it and see how it goes.

I am gonna guess if you do want him out it's going to be one heck of a time removing him. You could always trade for another fish, or some frags.

Looks amazing mate. Are protein skimmers essential? I'm busting to do a marine set up

Technically NOT essential, but I'm sure most reefers here will say definitely get one! All the gunk it removes is remarkable, esp if you have lots of fish, or fish that need more than once a day feedings! Moved my journal over to a new one, if you have anymore questions feel free to post them in the new journal section
