Rhy's Juwel Rio 125L Tropic To Marine Attempt!

Thanks guys!

So epoxy and me - DONT MIX lol! I spent hours trying to get it to work and to look like the loose arrangement in the pics (whilst ensuring that the rocks dont touch the glass or filter) But I just couldn't get it perfect! Still like the finished effect though!!!

Here's the rocks post epoxy and screws with the powerhead in and the black vinyl background!

Thanks seffie,

Now just to let the tank mature a bit!

Today's readings:
salinity - 1.025
pH - 7
Ammonia - 0.6
Nitrite - 0.1
Nitrate - <5

I'm gonna keep the filter in the corner as it's hardly noticeable (now that the back of the tank is black as well) and its an extra tiny bit of flow, but more so because I'm gonna add carbon in a media bag and phosphate remover in a media bag in the filter media column.

Anyone have any suggestions for a neat, over the side kind of protein skimmer (that doesn't make too much noise)? :)]

yay, cycling :)

May I suggest point a powerhead upwards to get some surface agitation? Your pH is very low... This might help.

Structure looks great. Epoxy never works well for me either :(

All according if you want to splash the dosh, if you do, you cant beat the mce 300 for your tank, if not look at the cheap boyu one (may even fit in your media box) or the nano tmc v2, think there is one for sale in the marine classifieds

Thanks guys!

Changed the powerhead to get some surface agitation and that seemed to do the trick with the pH!

Readings were great today so got some critters and coral!

ENJOY!!!

Yellow star polyp? I think lol! It closed up on the way home
yellowstarpolypclosed.jpg

HERE IT IS OPENED OUT, THINK THATS A NICE PLACE TO PUT IT. IT GETS QUITE A BIT OF RANDOM FLOW THERE, CONSTANTLY CHANGING THE DIRECTION.

Cheers Harry, that definitely makes me feel a lot more relaxed. I've also noticed a little fan like thing popping out of the rock to catch particles.
It looks kinda like this:-

But just the fan part sticks out of the rock and then shoots back in. Any ideas to who the owner may be??

Also, I put reflectors in today and my tank temp went up to 28 degrees (82 F). I've read all kinds of stuff, each recommending different temperatures for the tank. Anyone care to suggest what the best temp for the tank would be?

Thanks,
Rhy

you have feather dusters :good: good invert some of them are very colourful.
people have their tanks at different temps but i run mine at around 26-27 maybe less.
28 is fine but i dont like it that high

Thanks for that guys! Feel a LOT better now about the temp, still lowered it so that the max it rises to now is 26.5.

Got some new tankmates today

3 Nassarius vibex snails,
2 more blue leg hermit crabs (one of the original two killed the other :( )
and...... A TORCHIE!!!

Here are the pics before epoxying, when I epoxy it in place tomorrow will add more pics!

And I think I've found out what my little pink stuff are on the LR, its Homotrema rubrum!

Looks a nice one Rhy, just insure it isn't blasted by the powerhead :good:

Thanks Seffie! Yeah i read that they dont like too much direct flow, where it is its still getting fairly regular flow but its sheltered from the big powerhead by the piece of ledge rock, not sure if that position is ok or not because it's still getting a bit of flow from the tiny power head? Heard that they can sometimes make good substitutes for anemonefish/clownfish in terms of hosts, thats why I wanted to place it there in the middle of the tank hehe.

Found a hijacker today... a dead hijacker crab. Have no idea where it came from cause it's pretty big, spiky crab with black claws!
Also, found ANOTHER blue legged hermit crab dead today! It's like a massacre in my tank :( next time im going for red hermits!

Heres the Hijacker

Heres the torch finally opening up some more.... isn't it supposed to be really long???

Anyone know what that clam like looking thing in the middle of the torch may be?
