Research on Bettas From Large Pet Chains

“These people” are researchers, analyst, and university interns that focus specifically on aquatics. They work with leading universities. Dr. David just completed a study in Canada working on Fish TB and guppies, in particular. Simultaneously, he has been involved with the betta research for over 2 years but now can devote more time to it. Yes, they have specific testing and technology which is funded through specific grants. That’s about all I can tell you.

I didn't know that these types of scientific endeavors were taking place. The fact that it is occurring with such a humble creature as pet shop fish is remarkable. What a wonderful day we live in.

I ditched cable tv and now subscribe to youtube streaming tv for the last couple of years. No more ridiculously high cable bills for me.

These things happen all the time! I myself work in the same sector, and although my main focus is on aquaculture fish rather than ornamental, there is a huge amount of work which goes into looking into fish.
Take salmon for example they can tell which river in the UK a salmon is from just by the frequency of some alleles ( i imagine the same sort of thing they will do in this study).
It sounds very interesting work, but I imagine will take a while to come out but would love to read the paper when it does!

My issue, is that very little of this science comes into the hobby. It's all well and good reading the books, but they are out of date the moment they are published, and beware those who do not use sources. Magazines do publish some information but as with most journalism they simplify the findings again look for the sources.
To get the full and complete picture you need to look at the peer reviewed papers, in reputable journals eg Aquaculture, journal of fish health, journal of aquatic pathobiology ect. ( and I appreciate not possible for everyone due to paywalls, but you can use Scihub to get free access if you used the DOI) but if you go to google scholar for example and type in guppy genetics, or betta diseases you'll find a whole host of information which doesn't seem to trickle through to most people in the hobby.

I'm completely blown away. I had no idea whatsoever that these kinds of research were being done. It is also very cool. Very cool indeed. The things we are about to find out will be fascinating. Oh, and what's You Tube ?

What’s YouTube, What’s YouTube!!!!! YouTube is my life! I can’t live without YouTube!

I’m just kidding, it is a website where their are videos, pretty much about everything. I’m talking AquaScaping, Pixel Gun 3-D, Knitting’s tutorials, soccer fail, etc. if you can name it, YouTube has it! :D

I know what it is. I'm just giving you young whippersnappers something to get excited about. You Tube is like the Internet. It's just the worlds biggest laundromat bulletin board. I used to be a printer before I got computered out of my job. We used to say that paper was funny. It would just lay there and let anybody print anything they wanted to on it. The same goes for the Internet and You Tube. Don't believe everything you see and read.

You can trust anything you see online, after all, it’s on the internet....duh! ( <<<<<not<<<<) :p

Type Writer? What is this, “Back to the Past”, 1867, to Mr. William Austin Burt‘s, house?

(Look him up. ^)
