hi there, today i went to buy a temp tank from a guy and when i got there i found
he had fish still in it.
the water looked disgusting and the fish had nowhere to hide out of sight.
there are 2 mollies, 2 guppies, 2 albino corys
and this guy

a 10" long common pleco (i think he's a common anyhoo)
he has some light markings on his back and i'm slightly concerned about them.
you can see them in the picture, 3 or 4 light coloured stripes across his back.
are these anything to be concerned about ?
i have 2 other sailfins and both are far darker in colour which leads me to believe
that somethings wrong.

Commons (which it is btw) and gibbys amongst other species get these stripes when stressed, unsettled or even when feeding ime. They are not injuries or wounds so don't worry about that.

It does look malnourished from what i can tell from that photo, im sure after a good feed or 5 and once its settled in a well maintined tank the difference will be marked.

my own pleco is around 12" long but lots wider, better fed as you say.
oh well time to get him some treats.
