the problems with "admin" are well covered, but what indication is there that we need more mods? or is it more to do with the people that some would like to see as mods, whether needed or not?

I repeat my intentions of posting this thread.... I was under the impression that it was originally decided that this forum will have "x" number of mods, with a specific task assigned to each of em.......

Since there are a couple that had become totally inert (& I quoted e.g. "Great Lakes" - for instance).... I just thought that we have a couple of great guys on here to fill those "vacancies"....

Nothing lacking on the forum and I'm extremely impressed with what those active persons are achieving...

It has been said by Rocknurworld and Ludwig, we don't need MORE mods, we need DIFFERENT mods, as there are some that for whatever reason aren't on as much anymore, therefore not fulfilling their role within the forum.

he is very unlikely to see any of the threads that are outlining the problems the members of this forum are experiencing.
Everything that needs to be done is outlined in a "honey do list" in the mods forum so all he has to do is look at it.

Whilst he or someone high up the 'pecking order' has come up with an, albeit, temporary fix to the search problem, it is a long way off ideal. I am quite technically minded, as like to think I can read things through carefully and make sense of it, reading through RDD's post, I went over it quite a few times, and broke it down, only then could I begin to understand it. My point of all of that is that someone who may not be as 'clued up' as myself, would potentially find it nigh on impossible to work out.
Actually, Schmill was the one that stated in a previous thread that you could use Google to search. We just wanted to get something up that everyone could see as a temporary fix. It really isn't as complicated as it seems. Probably 95% of searchs will return links that you simply have to click on to get to the thread. Only in rarer situations where the only results are old will you have to get into the changes in URLs.

As for the original topic, there have been no new mods added since I became a mod. I was among the last group to be chosen. My understanding though is that when it is decided that more mods are needed, the current mods suggest people they think will be good mods based on numerous criteria such as knowledge, patience and level-headedness (probably not a word) just to name a few. It is discussed in the mods section and of course all mods along with William have their input.

I understand that I am very new to this, but when I joined most of the time there were 2 or 3 mods on, now I am lucky to see 1 on.

Just because you don't see us doesn't mean we aren't here. Do you see me?

But also, Prudential, as it is in this case, ... It will not hurt if potential candidates are suggested from the floor..... or is that being out of line??...

(I do appologize to Colin_T, if any inconvenience was caused by using his name, but personally, I think he has the exact qualities fitting your criteria)....

Some mods will log on as invisible (everyone has that capability) as I assume Inchworm is now. There will always be times when there isn't a mod around, especially in the wee hours of the night (of course, there aren't many people on at that time anyway). If you see a problem, regardless of whether you see a mod online or not, please click the "Report" button in the thread. That is better than trying to PM us individually since we will all get an email of a reported topic as to what the problem is and will work to get it fixed or removed as soon as possible.

I understand what you are saying in that, but you get what I mean.

I don't think people on here have a 'place' I think that when commenting on new mods then everyone should be able to have a say, not just people with X amount of post or have been registered for X amount of time.

Thank you, limerickbandit. :D On this note I think I'll close this thread.

We do not usually change a Mod's status because their life circumstances have changed and they are not now active, but from time to time someone might retire. At present we are not considering bringing on any new moderators although we might at some future time.
