I recently got this filter today as part of me using up some giftcards I got for Christmas and I hooked it up today. Right now, I have 2 Aqua Clear 70's on it now and the just recently installed Rena. My question is I want to take down one of the Aquaclear 70's and just leave 1 Aquaclear 70 and the Rena. When I take down the Aquaclear 70 can I put the two sponges and biomax stuff into the Rena or should I just leave it be with the standard filter stuff that came with the Rena?

My Tank 55 Gallon, 4ft long.

How long has your tank been set up?

6+ months now. it's been cycled for awhile. I used the old filter media from my old 15 gallon tank and put it in my 55 gallon tank and have been cycled from almost day one.

Take the sponge and try to make room for it in the XP2 media basket. After about a month or so, remove the sponge and fill it with regular media for the XP2. You should be able to remove the other filter also and just leave the XP2 running.

Simply running tandem with the AC70 the Rena will clone in a couple weeks. It most certainly would help if you put some media from the AC you're taking out, but without doing so I don't think you'd be shooting yourself in the foot or anything unless you have a big bio load.
