And they say third time lucky :D

I have had two before, first one killed my most favorite swordie and he had to go, sorry to see him go, i was depressed for many week, because i absolutly love RTB, and then i got tempted again and bought another one, sadly she got aggressive too, but this time i didnt give her away for free because she was in way better condition than when i bought her, got £4.50 for her

And now i am going to try for a third time, but if this one gets aggressive i have a tank ready for him, so i wont really have to get rid of him, but he may have to put up with a aggressive silver tip tetra which the pets store gave to me for free and now i wish they hadnt

I love Red tail black shark, they are soooo adorable, just sad that they are so aggressive sometimes, Maybe i might strike gold and get one that will fit in fine with my community

Mine is fine in my 20 gal with various community fish. He's fully grown and been in there 3 years, sure he does some chasing occasionally but he shares his cave with my golden nugget plec. (no-one else though.)

They are fairly aggressive fish and experiences do vary vastly but you're right, they are great fish. :)

Yeah well i got him, and he is only a baby, and most adorable, but i have already run into trouble, he doesnt seem to like my common pleco, i think because my common pleco normally stays a very dark shade of grey, that the red tail black shark thinks it one of its own kind and he keeps trying to make stand off with the pleco, but the common plec aint doing anything he sits there, is he going to be alright, because i know plec's have a tuff skeletal frame that might help him fend off the RTB until he realizes its a pleco and not a shark?

:(

Your plec will be fine, they can cope with far worse than a RTBS. :)

If you already have an RTB thats established in your tank your going to have a very hard time making another addition work...They should be kept by themselves or if you have the tank space you can try a group of atleast 6 but 8+ would probably be you rbest bet....and even then its not a sure thing that a single fish wont be stressed out and unhealthy. If i were you id not bother and keep it one per tank....They are great as a center piece fish. JMO

O.O

Mate i only have one, i kept two before hand (please note not ast the same time, i bought one, he g aggressive and i gave him away, thn bought another on and she got aggressive and i sol her) but had to get rid of them because they got violent and started killing my swordies and i had nowhere to house them, but this time i do if he gets violent that is, i hated getting rid of my last two, because if you couldnt tell these are my very favoritist fish of them all...

I know they should be kept alone, but not only from their own spieces but another spiece such as the Bala shark, Albino shark, red finned shark, siamese algae eaters, or any fish that ressembles the shape of a shark, thats why i was very worried, you looked at Pts At Home, all in one tank, they had these fish grups, the bala sharks were in horrendos condition that i expressed my nger towards their negelance of the fishies requirements, you had some RTB sharks in poor condition and look a little ill from stress, albino sharks and the red finned sharks looks in tatters from shredded fins and such and then you had siamese algaes one dead, and the rest with either no tail, no pelvic fins and dorsal fins, so i picked the best one, then requested management and told them straight that they need to seperate these fish, hey could but the bala sharks in with thier blue neons, since neons need little space, then they coul put the albino sharks in with their mollies since their mollie were quite big, but also had one of the largest display tanks, the RTB should sta in that tank, but their red finned sharks in with the barbss which was also a big display tank and then the siamese algae eaters in with their angels since they also had a big display tank and there were very few angels in there, and half of them were only baby angels

It is sad and stupid that a so called renouned pet store would know so little about their stock, and i find it disgusting, i would say i would never go bck there again, but recently the other tore i used to go to for my RTB sharks clsed down, because they were selling illegal live stock and was giving out wrong information that resulted in alot of complaints because their incorrect information has big effects, such as the time a block told my brother that he had golden orf, but actually my brother had mirror carp, which golden orf grow only to about half a foot long and two inches deep in body, mirrors excel that and grow to enormus size that can give them weights over 30 pounds in weight, it is incorrect information like this that has landed my brother in $h!t, because now he has to find somewhere to house his mirror carp, he dont want to get rid of them because the amount he paid for them, £7 each and he has two, golden orf come at £1.99 each where i have seen them, and they look NOTHING like mirror carp at all, so the block was chatting $h!t...

Oh well, my RTB shark seems to be leaving the pleco alone now and he is going around fine now, though i knew before i even got him where he would make home, and he has gone where i thought he would go, the only thing is he rarely ventures from it at the moment, i will give him time to settle in, then maybe he might scout around the rest of the tank

My RTBS can be aggressive but it's more flaring and being pushy than actually nipping or doing damage. He takes on my Gourami, chasing her all over during feeding time but he's learned quickly enough the Clowns will fight back against him so he mostly leaves them alone.

And just to be fair to the shop employees; you should know what you're buying before you buy it. They can't know everything about every fish or every interaction and most aren't even well trained because the job just isn't a high paying one so no one with that expertise is avaliable. As the saying goes, buyer beware. IMO you're being too hard on the shop workers.
