I recall reading somewhere that red-tail black sharks and Siamese Algae Eaters are not compatible. Is this true? Has anyone kept these two fish together in the same aquarium?

I wouldn't do it as they look similar and RTB Sharks are quite intolerable of their own kind. If you had a large tank then you could try.

I have a rainbow shark and 2 SAE's and they are fine with each other. The SAE's are much faster than the shark so even if he chases them he cant catch them. Just make sure they are true SAE's and not false.

I too have a RTBS and a SAE in the same tank.
as phlawed has said the SAE it too fast for the RTBS
