A great hammerhead shark caught off Boca Grande last month was impressive, not only for its 3-foot-wide hammer, 14-foot length and 1,280 pounds. It also was carrying 55 shark pups.

Too bad they killed it.. I hate seeing stuff like this.. makes no sense to me why someone would want to catch a shark and let it die.. finding there are 55 babies in there just makes me hate it even more.

I'm not condoning the death of 56 sharks, but at least the meat-head who dragged it from the sea "gave" it to scientific research instead of ripping out the jaws and ditching the rest.

I cant stand people like this clyde buck dennis idiot how go out hanting for shark and other big fish, dont they know that sharks aren't counted for and that man are hunting them just for their fins, this is out of order and espicailly when this shark was about to give birth, this is like killing a woman with so many children, I wonder if he's got a family of his own and how he would feel

At least they have some more accurate information for research.

To me it's no different to the vast numbers of wild caught fish we see in our lfs. How many of them die entirely pointlessly *just* en route to the shop (while being shipped) - then how many of them die due to acclimation problems at the lfs? Then how many die because people buy the wrong fish for the wrong tank and are fed the wrong diet and kept with the wrong tank mates ?
*Just * for our own selfish desires. That makes me far sadder.....
