how do you get a tank that wide in your house???

we stuggled with my 6x2x2.

was only me and my dad tho.

when tanks get that big buy acrylic then your children can lift it
:D

most door size are about 30inch wide with the door stops so it doesnt matter how wide the tank is as long as its only 30inch deep take the door stops off (which is easy) and you should get 33-34 wide

The trick is to only have the tanks built 24" tall and then bring them in on their side, either that or convert the garage into a fish room and then you can bring tanks as wide as a car in through the door.

My big un is 32" wide and 24" tall so like CFC brging them in on there side, it's how my 4x3 came in aswell, it's ok until the tank has a double base then it albecomes a bit more tricky.

im quite new to ray keeping but as far as i know they rarely sting(unless you tread on one) but care must be taken

i have only ever seen one agressive male motoro that would bring its tail up like a scorpion at everything that enterd the tank

it was brought back to a shop i know i think the owner may be dead (only joking) but it was a scary sight they can use their tails at lightning speed if they want to

i personally think you stand more chance of getting stung if you keep your rays in a bare bottom tank as the only 2 ways a ray knows how to defend its self if to bury its self in the substrae or sting

That depends on the size of the fish compared to the rays and how aggressive the rays are, for the most part in my experience rays leave other fish alone unless they are easily overpowered but every now and again you hear of a nasty ray that trys to eat anything.

mid water fish for a ray tank has always been a problem

the way i look at it their are lots of fish that can go in a ray tank but dont think it will last forever

the only fish i know for sure will be safe are tigers (dats) and a few large catfish (not plecos) i have never tryed clown loach but i have been told they work well as they have a sharp dorsal fin like tigers and the rays dont like the feel of it

the only problem with clown loach is they are prone to white spot and if they get it when kept with rays you wont be able to treat it

as for the flag tail you can try to keep more than one in the same tank but i can nearly garantee you that it wont work one flag tail per tank if you dont want ripped up tail or dead flag tails

their are a few people on other sites that think that flag tails have sucked and killed their rays but to me thats rubbish as no healthy ray would just lay their and get sucked to death
my flagtail did suck on my rays disk a few times but the rays just push it off with no damage or stress to the ray at all my ray cloacked and chewed the flag tail a few time after he had been sucked buy the flagtail now the flagtail stays well away from all of the rays

flag tails chould be a problem if the ray doesnt have enought space to get out of the flagtails way

discus wont last long

the uaru.f i had worked well but the normal brown uaru.a that you normally see for sales seam to like pecking at the rays disk and even go for the eyes

silver dollars, red hooks or black bar dollars also work well

but at the end of the day tank mates for the mid water in a ray tank is just a temp thing they will all end up as feeders at some point

Peacock bass work well as do other large powerfull fish, it would have to be a very very large ray to overpower an adult peacock.

it will also be hard to get enought food past the p.bass to keep the ray well fed

Thats very true, my motoros are quick on the food and just as aggressive as the p bass at feeding time but less boisterous rays could have a hard time.

Me too it took 3 of us to lift my 6x2x2 and our hands were sweating too :-( but we managed it and got it in on the stand..... :)

 wimps!! 2 foot wide tanks are a two man job, you only need more men on the bigger tanks because the extra width makes getting a decent handle on them difficult. Just the other day we got my mates new 8x2.5x2 in with 3 of us and the third man was just to guide it onto the stand straight.
