Do you take meds. I have GERD. I take omeprazole and it works good. I eat spicy foods often.

The doctor subscribed nexum for me and I have been using that for the past five years. Not crazy about the idea, but every time I ask a different doctor, I am told to keep taking nexum. It works and when I try and stop for a few days I start feeling the acid climbing up my throat. I was warned of throat cancer from the acid burning my esophagus if I don't take nexum.

You need to try and find ways to reduce the acid. Stress can contribute, as can acidic foods.

Do you have much dairy food in your diet?
If not, perhaps try to add some small amounts of dairy throughout the day. It will help neutralise the acid a bit. And drink small amounts of water throughout the day, it helps dilute and wash the acids out of your stomach and into your intestine.

Why have I not being getting notifications for this thread?

@Utar I'm so sorry you have this illness. I hope it doesn't affect you that much.

Yes , they dont recommend people with GERD eat a large meal within 2 hours of going to bed.

@Fishmanic I have notifications for this thread but I don't think I watch it. Is that why I'm not getting the alerts that somebody has said something?

Edit: When I reloaded the forum, I had an alert and it was from you saying you'd quoted my post on this thread. Maybe it was just that I haven't been on this thread for a while and it didn't update me on the posts?

My husband can't eat anything spicy and he also has an intolerance of any member of the pepper family. Even smelling me cutting up sweet peppers for a salad makes him queasy, and if he accidentally eats any he is violently sick about 4 hours later.
He too was diagnosed with Barretts in early 2015. He's had 'indigestion' for years and years and all the doctors said was to take an antacid. Late 2014 he had a very bad pain in his lower back, round his side to the front. The doctor did all sorts of test which were all negative. Then he commented that his stomach still felt swollen so she immediately sent him for a gastroscopy/biopsy. He had 4 gastroscopies in 4 months and was finally diagnosed as just Barratts, they'd been checking to see if any of the lesions were low grade dysplasia as some of the cells looked borderline. He now has to have gastroscopies every year (Covid 19 permitting) to keep an eye on things. As soon/if as he develops high grade dysplasia he'll be sent for treatment as the next stage is oesophageal cancer.
He takes lansoprazole now, the indigestion symptoms have gone, and he's put on weight as he can now eat without feeling bloated.
He is grateful to the back pain because without it he wouldn't have had the gastroscopies and would probably have gone on to develop cancer before anything was diagnosed.

And the undiagnosed back pain? A year later I had shingles. The first symptom was severe back pain, radiating round my side to the front in exactly the same position as my husband had. It was a week later that I got spots following the line of pain. We now think he twisted his back and compressed the same nerve where the chickenpox virus lives in me.

OK, I knew you grew up in Wyoming, but I can't remember where. The lake rings a bell, but I can't place it. The country looks like boysen, but it isn't. Hint?

Sunshine. It's about 15 minutes from Meeteetse. I wish we had those views here in Ohio.

Leaving in a few minutes to go to Wooster to pick up a 5 gallon to start a new betta tank. Woohoo!

@Barry Tetra I love Thai peppers! One of my top 10 favorite peppers.
