Rabbuts Slow Burner

OK, so after speaking with the engineering neighbour, we *may* have further progress. My Dad does not want permanent modifications done that are messy, or leave evidence/damage behind if removed later... The neighbour has said it "should" be safe as is, but he'd recommend a "pad" under the tank, i.e. Breeze block base, with coarse bricks and the final gap with cement. That is easy, not too messy and would get to a point of "almost definitely safe". Even then, I'm contemplating "downscaling" to a 3X2X2, that scores "definitely safe" in the neighbour's opinion, after the application of the pad :good:

Still not got a definite answer from the folks yet, and a lot will depend on if I can get under the floor in that area with enough access to apply the recommended pad. There is about 3' under the access to the floor, with about 2.5' of space on average under the floor, but it drops to lower height in some places

Due to in-sufficient access under the floor to install a concrete plinth/pad, and a refused request to pull up floorboards or rawl-bolt the tank to the wall, the 150g is a definite no-started for this up-grade project. A 100g total volume 3X2X2 foot (more likely 3'X20"X20" display) system may still be an option, and one I'm going to try for being the same weight when running as the current tank in the same spot, but it may be a case of abandoned project at this point

Hi Rabbut have you thought of a 48" x 24" x 18" a lot less weight easier to light as its only 18" deep this is the size i am looking at in the future but for diffrent reasons (Wet armpits everytime I lean into a 24" ;) )

Not enough water out of it I'm afraid, as salt, rock and a DSB filter area will a push the weight up some way above the weight of the current tank, even though it's a similar volume... Good suggestion, but not small enough weight wise I'm afraid

We have list-off :hyper: A 370l marine system with a 260l display has been given the green light by the folks :good:

So, I'm looking at;

30KG of live rock
A Dispergator Protein skimmer VS-40 Venturi
Magdrive 7.5 for the return from the sump (4,000lph at the planned head-height)
Two Tunze 6025 for the main tank flow
Maxijet MP1200 for the reactors feed
DIY Zeovit reactor
DIY Phosban reactor
A 300W Visitherm heater
About 9.6KG of Reef Crystals salt for the initial fill.
DIY LED lights, containing 100 3W LED's, probably 50White, 50Blue...
DIY balling dosing system for Mg, Alk and Ca using computer control from the lights and peristaltic dosing pumps...
The usual test kits for Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate, pH, Alk, Mg, Ca and Phosphate and a Refractometer
50 GPD RO unit
Ball valves X3
Water butt - 200l. capacity for water mixing

In the sump will be the skimmers, heaters and reactors already mentioned, along with a remote DSB, Reforgium and possibly some extra LR. The Reforgium will also be LED lit, using about 15-30 3W LED's

I'm not sure how that works :p No go for 400l, 3x2x2 is a no, but you can have a 370l setup? :p how many litres is a 3x2x2?

John.

The 400l tank was going to have a 200l sump, so 600l total volume, or like 700-800KG in weight. The granted tank, a 91.5X51X51cm tank with sump will be 370l total volume, or about 500KG when done, the same as the Tropical tank with all it's rock and substrate...

A 3X2X2 would be 329l

Well, it will be just after Christmas at the absolute earliest by this thing has water in it, so it will definitely be a slow burner  At this point, I'm not sure whether to build the stand and tanks now and assemble hardware later (involves sooner sale of Discus and their tank and equipment, and longer with a "tank in progress" in that alcove) or assemble the hardware and then the tank and stand (involves building the stand and tanks outside in the Garage in the middle of winter Burrr *Rabbut shivers*, but I won't have an empty space to look at for as long and can keep the Discus longer...)

Get yourself a wooly hat and scarf and keep the discus longer :good:

or a patio heater hehehe

Maybe. There is also the issue of a leaky Garage roof, and Silicone/wood cannot get wet before it cures/get varnished...

I am leaning towards build the big bits now, get the hardware later...

Put a gazebo up, there you go, sorted :p

Well, some equipment has been ordered... An Aqua Medic Oceanrunner 6500 pump for the sump return, and a Dispergator Protein skimmer VS-40. That's £250 gone :X :-(

And I'll be getting some wood all being well on Wednesday, and the glass ordered tomorrow on my lunch break (possibly) to start the ball rolling. I just have to photo all the FW fish and get some listings up. Once they are gone, I can sell the tank and equipment...

A lot can happen in a day..

I've started to build the cabinet for the tank (may post a nice guide for all you lovely people in the coming weeks, to give ideas for anyone thinking of building their own cabinet, but not quite knowing where to start), and nearly have the first of the two load-baring frames built with "proper" Mortice and Tenon joints :hyper:

My OceanRunner 6500 turned up today. I'd never seen a whirlpool in a bath.... Until today. It's a real beast. Glad I thought twice about firing it up in the Kitchen sink to test it, I'd probably have made rather a mess...

If I remember (before the glass shop closes this time) the glass for the display and Sump will be ordered tomorrow also. Catch 21 though, is I need rid of the Discus set-up soon to make room for it all. I can't store it in the garage once it's done, as we won't be able to put the car in while it's in there... That won't go down well with my Parents  I guess I should get into the Classifieds section next and list it all
