Ok so I've just noticed another thread about these small wall hanging tanks that are claimed to be suitable for a betta! Yes it wouldnt be fair to house a betta in one of these just like I think its unfair to house them in the jars like breeders and LFS do! We all complain about these new tanks and things but I don't see any of you criticising (spelling) the people who keep them in jars how come its allright to contain one in a jar and not a different design of a tank that can be placed on a wall and which in some cases has more swimming room for a betta?

It's just something I've noticed and would appreciate other peoples views on this topic!

those wall-hanging ones are all a lot smaller than the jars, they have to be, you wouldn't be able to put much weight at all on the piddly little screw that comes with it.
and the people i've seen who keep in jars are because they have lots of bettas, and breed, of course the males need to be split into SOMETHING and are kept clean, well fed, warm and happy. those jars are usually 1 gallon+ anyway.

Yes us breeders use them because having a 2.5-10 gallon tank for every betta we have would be a nightmare to clean, tlak about oaying for! we use them becasue they are easy to obtain, hold enough water and are see-through meaning we can keep an eye on our stock :)

Those wall hangers are not the same because they are round and hold only 3 litres of water :(

Because those tanks are intended to keep a betta for life, breeders only keep them in tanks like that for... a month or two (by my reckoning?). Plus most are about 1/2g or over, only those with really huge spawns that weren't expected or importers tend to keep them in less.

To echo another poster: I think a comfortable tank would be difficult to hang on the wall. Might tear down the plaster...unless you could use a stud finder...which leads into naughty jokes. Those might be temporary housing but any of us wants our pets to be happy and provide the right environment. Imagine one of us living in a 4' by 6' room and there you have it. Their personalities don't come out in those little things. I worked with a lady who had bettas and kept them in these little tanks. For all the years she's had them, I bet not one of them ever made a bubblenest. She's never had that experience of seeing them do that and the whole fun of it let alone their happiness. It would be like keeping a cat locked up in a bathroom 24/7 on a permanent basis. Not fair to anyone involved is it? A fish can't howl and scream like a cat can so how would you know it's not happy unless you knew what the fish behaved like when it WAS happy? It upsets me to see any animal housed in a poor environment. All of us here as Betta lovers and animal lovers get riled when we see others who don't seem to "GET IT" about Bettas. There seems to be persistent myths about them that just won't go away.

Also breeders put there bettas in jars when they are only a couple to a few months old when they are small and are only in the jars for a couple weeks before there sold.

I'll echo what has been said... the jars are meant to be temporary, whereas those little tanks are not. Heck, I don't even use jars for my juvies, the containers I use are only a little under 1 gallon :)

Thanks for your comments its just something that came to mind lately thats all Don't worry I'm not going to go out and buy them as I also dont agree with them it was just a querrie I had! Thank you for taking the time to reply!

The juvies are only kept in there for 1 month 2 months at the most and the balls you are talking about are only 3 litres and cannot take much weight. It would also be a nightmare for us breeders to have to pay for 2.5-10 G tank for each and every male you would need more then 300 of them.
