<sigh>

I got a few new Neons today (and a couple Panda Corys). Upon closer inspection, one of the Neons looks as if he's missing color in a few spots. Most of his red and blue stripes are still there. With NTD, do they only lose the red stripe? Does the entire red stripe go away "at once", or a little at a time? Is the blue part affected? The fish in question has a "strip" of abnormal color that goes like this: \ from his dorsal fin down to his tummy. He doesn't seem to have any trouble swimming, he eats fine, is acting normal. Comments, thoughts, suggestions?

And the Oto - my Oto that was sick a month or two ago now has blood-red spots on his gills <sigh> Any suggestions there? He's acting like his usual self, still eating, far as I can tell.

All other fish are fine. Water change was done yesterday. Haven't actually checked chem levels recently.

Thanks.

From what I am reading from a really good magazine called "Aquarium Fish Magazine", it says that with NTD the red stripe will fade away, not disappear all at once. Also the fish will exhibit unusual swimming behavior, spinal curvature, emaciation, and frayed fins.

Not sure about the otto cat, but to me sounds like a parasite. I would get a parasite medication that is safe for scaleless fish and try that just to see if it improves, if it does, follow through with it.

The NTD question has been answered imo, so onto the otto

reddening of the gills is very likley gill flukes(Dactylogyrus),
Flukes are small worm-like parasites up to 2mm in length
treating with Malachite and formalin is often effective.

Thanks. The Oto's gills looked fine last night -_- They were back to "normal" color. Odd...

The Neon still looks the same. I'm undecided as to whether or not I should take him back to the lfs. He's swimming fine...
