Q About Air Driven Filters

I have been given a tank and with it came an aerator which I don't need. It's a box, whisper brand, with a tube attached.
Could I use this with an air driven box filter like this, or the DIY fish food box one?
Does the aerator box sit outside the tank?

i used 1 of those filters for bout a week and didnt think they where much gd. you would prob be better with a proper sponge filter or a diy 1.
and yes the air pump sits outside the tank.
also depending on the size of the tank u could get a proper filter for inside the tank. if its only a small tank prob something like a interpet mini would be gd

if you need tips on building sponge filters ive become quite good at it and they work GREAT! i think for a small tank DIY sponge filters are the NUTS
