Tomorrow I start planting.

Thats so kool. I cant wait to see it when its planted. If i may ask how did you get the idea of doing a nano freshwater tank?

Can you show me a pic of your lighting setup... especially since I'm trying to decide if I want to put together a nano tank too??

OOOH :hyper: i saw these on the planted tank forum. They're really nice, and ur driftwood setup is nice too.

One of them. 15w T8. It should be enough.
MissKiwiw, I saw your thread about starting a nano. I personally find the 1 or 2 gallon tanks too small. The 5.5 is a nice size, but still small enough not to take up any space. It has a nice depth to it so you can get some nice 'scaping in.

I think the 2 gallon would be too small for me too, but the point is portable... I have no idea where I'll be going every 6 months for the next 2 and a half years... and I don't want another tank if I can't grow plants in it...

How portable do you think the 5 gallon would be??? Its not that much smaller than the 10 I just took apart, but I'm in withdrawals...

Yeah, the 2 is definitely more portable than the 5. But then, then a 5 is still better than a 10 or a 20. I say do it. Don't deny yourself :fun:

my lfs has a fully planted bowl! its on display with one female betta and lots of plants. They drilled a hole in the glass and made a small sump type filter and heater inside of it. (not a wet/dry just basically the sump with mechanical media, some lava rock for bio media and a small 10 watt heater.) i would absolutely do this except i dont really think i could drill glass :X . and i dont think theres a c02 but i could be wrong. its probally the best looking "tank" under 25 gallons that ive ever seen! simply awesome. for lighting they just used a full spectrum bulb at wal mart, (didnt ask the watts) and for the cover a glass circle with a little hole for feeding.....................

ooops got so far off track, anyways i cant wait to see this nano tank

Looking kinda thin at the moment, didn't wanna plant too heavily incase the lighting wasn't sufficient and the plants just died. Also planted some anubias var nana petite infront of the driftwood on the right, and some elatine triandra in the foreground. Will take another pic tonight when the light isn't reflecting off the glass.

Added CO2 today.

Thanks Oww. It's actualy silica sand mixe with flourite (probaby SeaChem, can't remember). About a 50/50 mix. I like it.

Great little tank pseud.

It will be interesting to see if your 15W T8 supplies enough light - 2.7 WPG is quite low in a nano as you are probably already aware especially as HZ, Elatine and Rotala all need a fair bit of light.

Good luck.

Thanks G.

I think I'm gonna have to take this light fixture back, it's acting up. Doesn't always switch on when I press the switch plus like you said, might not be enough light, so I think I'll upgrade to 26w CF

hey... starting to notice some algae growth.. bummer :( recommendations?
