mmmm..........the difference decent lights can make is amazing.........very nice little tank you have there pseud i shall look foreward to developments..........btw do you have a filter on this tank, cant see one and am too lazy to go back and find out.........

Thanks Zig. I agree, looks so much better than before... and the pearling has just gone off the wall!

Nope, no filter... =)

Who ever knew that a simple change of a bulb could make a tank look 500% better?

Great tank already pseud. Keep it up

looks awesome mate and love the new lights. huge improvement.

just needs a nice carpet of something now, what are your plans for the next step?

Thanks guys...

Haven't had the lights on for a full 8 hours to test the heat from the lights, I think it'll be fine though.

Next step is to get the Elatine Triandra growing and carpet nicely. Then maybe remove the H. Leucocephala and replace with Stargrass... see how that looks. After that, minor alterations, then take photos and wait for contest to roll around!

Thanks G

I'll keep you posted with pics!

The algae seems to have taken off with both legs running........ and is actually pearling...

I'm not really sure... it kinda looks like cobwebs all over my driftwood... there might also be some kind of mucus-like algae at the back of it, can't quite see!

Now, when you've finished picking yourself up off the floor laughing mate, can you tell me what to do? lol

have you measured your CO2? also i'm assuming this has appeared since adding the new lights...

my guess is your co2 was too low. fine for the old lights but not enough for the new ones.

added light = algae got the upper hand.

have you got any flourish excell? if you have and adding it helps then co2 was the issue.

getting lots of co2 in such a small volume of water is not easy.

this is just a guess though mate, check your levels before doing anything drastic. Good luck

CO2 was fine... it was at 30ppm... but at one point it was at 100! There's no filter so no surface agitation... maximum retention...

AMMONIA.

have you checked for it. if you have no filter and the plants are still bedding in any ammonia in the water at all will be used by algae.

you haven't got a filter full of bacteria to convert it to nitrite and nitrate instantly so i'd guess theres some ammonia floating about the tank at this early stage.

just thinking outloud, i may be wrong.

if it was that though your betta would not be too happy.

Jimbooo has a salient point there. Apart from the benefits of bio-filtration a filter also provides flow enabling the nutrients to circulate effectively around the tank.
