We're scheduled for a 4 hour power outage in the morning. I have one tank cycled and stocked and another being cycled. Without having to buy an expensive battery operated pump. Will syphoning and recycling the tank water be enough to keep the fish alive for this short of outage ?

Thanks

Not an expert, but my power was out for 67 hours a few weeks ago, and no fatalities. I was probably lucky, and my tank is also understocked and planted, but I think 4 hours would be OK. Maybe change some water halfway through to re-oxygenate?

Four hours should be fine. As you know it's coming, don't feed the day before, and if your tanks are less that 100l or so covering them up with a blanket to minimise heat loss would be a good precaution.

Thanks - here in Kansas we're more worried about keeping the heat out. Its been 102 here this week. I'll just crank up the AC prior to the outage and hope it doesnt go up too much. Being a small tank I never overfeed them as I like a clean tank plus I think the fish do better with less food than more.
That Tetra I was concerned about after losing another, survived and came out of it without treatment. Not sure what was going on but releived that all is well. I have this beautiful split tail beta that loves to watch the golf channel. Now he's got one of the Tetras watching it too. Ya gotta love these little guys .........

You get notice when the power is going out? All we ever get it the flash of lightning before all the lights go out.

I'm familiar with that too. In this case, there is a transformer thats leaking oil. So their doing a scheduled outage to replace it.
