Post Oscar Pic's Here!

i hate the long finned ones, it just doesn't suit them IMO

they're big brutes of fish, they really don't need big long girly fins :/

I wanna see a small betta get a look at that and go crazy :)

if you see a long finned oscar in person you will change your mind, they look so cool, and pictures do them no justice

Like body builders in tutus
We always have baby long-finned ones where I work, they look weird. Cute, but weird. Not something I would ever want, personally.

And although you say they cant hybridise, you must admit it looks more like that than an oscar?
Uh... no. My oscar lives with a midas hybrid whose face shape is pretty much 100% female midas, no nuchal hump or anything, and they are quite easy to tell apart when you see both types daily, the mouth structure is totally different. That oscar looks like nothing but an oscar to me :dunno:. Nor would I necessarily say that all oscars look like they've hit a wall at high speed; I find that younger oscars have more pointed faces and they round out more as they age, but it does have something to do with their breeding as well. You see a lot of variety among oscars. That oscar is a new, still relatively rare colour variety, so chances are there is some inbreeding there. I looked it up, and apparently they are calling that bloody red/super red :)

Check out this one, pic from oscarfish.com. Never seen an adult long-finned before!

Long fins are hideous. Poor bloody things cant swim quick enough without them, let alone with them. Mind you we're in this day and age where everyone wants a long finned inbred pointy nosed hybrid of some description, I guess. Just look at the long finned bristlenoses you see for sale - they can hardly swim at all, just cruel IMO.

I still stand by what I said. You may see them in the flesh more often (patronising much?) but look at those pics I posted and tell me the face shape isn't the same as that particular oscar.

That fish does not look like an oscar should. It's face is all wrong, and more midas like. I didn't say it was a midas. I didn't say it was a midas hybrid. I said it looked a bit midas in the face. I'm sticking by that, as I've shown you the pictures to prove my point. Just because your midas (sorry - midas cross) doesn't look the same doesn't mean I haven't got one!

And yes, that was arsey. Mainly because of the patronising and mocking tone of your post. Perhaps think before we type?

Sorry, didn't mean to patronize, I was just trying to make my point. I really honestly do not see the similarity; like I said, that fish looks like nothing but an oscar to me, I've seen other oscars with more pointed face shapes like that in the past. I just think the entire astronotus genus has a very distinctive appearance, and cannot for the life of me see how they are similar to citrinellus at all, even in the case of this particular fish. Plenty of fish have beaky faces, that doesn't mean they look alike, the mouth and gill structure isn't comparable in this case :dunno:

Just bumping this thread in case anyone else wants to post there pics :)

I walked into my local aquatic shop with the intent of looking at tanks..the first thing that caught my eye...the oscars. What amazing fish they are, I automatically thought, I want some of those. Its a real shame, I seem to favour all the non community fish..and I have a community tank.

I think with the help of looking at those lovely pics, I shall get another tank next year for oscars, they deserve to be admired on their own.
