cheers fish seem more active after :) hmmmm gets a tad chilly then!!!

we leave balls in our ponds in the winter. but with running water it's not likely to freeze over anyways.

Build yourself an extra garage sized building and stick a pond in it...sorted

last year i placed a policabonate sheet over the pond(mini greenhouse effect) seemed to work only a thin layer of ice on top, plan to put a heater in this year as well,i want ryans pond "wonder if he wants to exchange houses ?"

No chance!

I notice you have a Mirror Carp, very nice fish, I have been looking for some that aren't wild for quite some time. How big are yours?

How do you mean not wild? surely a mirror carp is a mirror carp :/ go to a fishing lake catch one and ask the owner if you can take it :D

Or you could always try and get to this place which has them!!- http://www.boddingtonkoi.co.uk/acatalog/shop.html

I wouldn't mind a ghost carp (not ghost koi) there pure white just brilliant, my dad caught one on our last fishing holiday....i caught a 11lb common carp(biggest fish i caught) and my dads picture was the only one that came out on the film :grr: gone digital now so no such problems this year :D

I would also like a Ghost Carp, but the chance is a fine thing. I have a Common Carp but no Mirror or Ghost. :/

By not wild I mean, young fish for sale from a shop. This means there is less chance of them transmitting parasites like wild Carp have been known to.

Best Carp I ever managed was a 20lb, I was fishing on a nice peaceful small lake on a sunny day and landing 8-10lb when I spotted I gaint near the surface and flung the line towards it..........the pig took the bait as soon as it hit the water. Lovely fish, and ofcourse I put him back where he belongs........swimming happy in the lake.

I think there's a ghost carp in the lake down the road from us, when we went fishing there we caught only few inch mirror and common.

Wouldn't you beable to quranteen to sort that??

I caught that 11lb when i wasn't actually fishing!! Had the bait danging in the water jus over the edge of the bay sorting something out and the sucker took the line and almost my brand new rod that day!! Talk about breaking the rod in  Took a good few minutes to get it in.

The the owner came round and said some guy had just spent 1 hour fighting a 9lb carp :D

our ponds not big enough for any carp yet though, I'll just keep on raising the stock everynow and then and in the end they'll give up and make plans on a nice big pond:D

i'ved been looking at bottom drains and filter stuff and vortexes are like £150, a good filter £200 odd then off course there's the pump and I' dlike a raised pond so there's brick work aswell.

as my Birthdays on June 14th I said the building of the pond could be my pressie :)

I'ved got a feeling the total will be aorund £1000 for a 3000 gallon, what kind of size are you looking at?

the one i got now is 6x6 but its not deep ,im looking at adding 8x6x3 next to it but slightly raised, have a water fall from one to the other, then transfer the larger(x16 )fish to the deeper pond and add the small fish to the shallow pond ,ill have no garden left soon

if my mum uses any more space for veg patches or flowers we won't have any garden left :grr:

she first didn't want me to have a bigger pond because she might loose flower space over it..

My plan is to have about a 11x10x4 just infront of the house, just got to figure out the space for the filter system :/ and i'd like a water into it.

Have a look at our other ponds they have a leading water fall, if we got thre big pond i'd let mum put water flowers in the top then i'll put the fry in there.

No, most wild fish are immune to the parasites they carry thats why they live on with no effects but to a hand picked Japenese Koi those parasites are life threatening.

hello back again finshed the laminate in record time, just had a quote back from the fibreglassing chaps  £1300 so thats a non starter ,looks like plan B liners, got my vip pump yesterday 6500ltr a min what a beast ,re filters paul why not build a raised pond and incoparate the filter at the top end filling a small header pool overflowing into the main pond ill post the plans for mine soon so you can see what im getting at

Hmmmm Unless we buy lots of the lil fibre glass DIY kits I guess it will be a liner aswell, my dad repaired the waterwall with a fibre glass DIY kit last year.

I think if i have a 3000gallon pond which is the max we can fit in at 4ft deep we need a 9000ltr a min :/ thats what it suggested in the Oase booklet for there pumps 'n' filters.

Yep I get what you mean, exactly how mine are now but on a smaller/bigger scale..... smaller top pond and bigger bottom pond :)

I would like a semi raised pond with the filter, pump and water fall all at the small end. The maybe hae aair pump and air ring on stand by for summers. I was thinking 1ft under then 3ft on top so it's that perfect height to sit on :D

I would prefer that but I want maximum space for the main pond so a water fall inlet would be spanky!!

Woooooooo new Koi :D

Picked the Soragoi up he had reserved for me and had the Goromo I'ved had my eye for a few weeks ;) .

I'l get pics up in a few ticks.

I swear i repeated my self a few times in this :S
