We can certainly look in to gong back to the way it was. It does leave the door open for spammers to hit us though and we really want to avoid that.

there are plenty of other options worth exploring before doing something like this...

I will bring it up in the mods forum to see what we can do. Not sure why it gives some 3 minutes and other longer. We had hoped that putting a minimum number of posts in before using the system would work but that didn't help either. Sorry for all the confusion. Please bear with us.

no probs mate, it wouldnt be much of a prob if the time was reduced.. just frustrating thats all

After looking at the screen shot more closely, it looks as though that was only 2 minutes that it was making you wait. The time in the lower right corner shows 5:29 and the message says you can't send another until 5:31. I'm sure the differencce from 2 to 3 minutes would be from a slight delay in clicking to send another. I'll still bring it up to see what we can do.

Not really logical, alot of new member use the PM fuction for various reasons to do with a fishless/fishin cycle and they get the one to one help from certain members through doing it this way. Sort of alienates the newer members which is never good for forum moral.

ye rdd, the time of the comp is different from the site, the site is about 5 mins ahead from my time, so the wait is about 2-3 mins at max problem solved, just us being dim wits

I'm all ears on this one, we hate having to inconvenience many due to the misbehavior of a few.

The time limit, which was suggested by, and is an Invision solution for this, is set at 3 minutes. To give you some idea of the scope of these spammers, on the average the board has 200-400 personal messages in any 24 hour period, 500 being a busy day. On April 7th we had over 12,000. April 8th, when it was stopped, gave the board over 1100 messages. It is safe to assume that the overwhelming majority of those messages were spam.

So, if any member has a more effective way of preventing this sort of thing from occurring, I, as well as Invision, would like to hear about it.
