Ooooh he's not. Dont let the pics fool you. This is one grumpy mean fish. Heaven forbid another plec wants courgette, he guards it.

Although I have a sneaky suspicion Gordon the new flash plec has had words, as I caught them....SHARING!

I'd like one of these: Pseudohemiodon apithanos. Known as "chameleon whiptails", they live in leaf-litter and change colour when they want to. Not too big (15 cm) but my royal plec would probably not enjoy the competition.

Those are stunning, I really love them. I saw them on another site and just fell in love. But hubby said our Red whiptails are enough whiptail for now. :/ Stunning non the less. Have you seen any then Neale??

:p

Wow Neale that is a stunning whiptail! I love whiptails. Our LFS has Royal Twigs in at the moment, think that's what they are called. They are lovely and thinking of getting a couple. That Chameleon gets quite big for a whiptail!

Our LFS also has this other one. Can't remember what it is off the top of my head, but it is a very similar shape to that one and it is almost like a flesh pink colour. It just stays buried in the sand in one of their tanks. You would never know it is there until it suddenley swims out.

L134 would be high on my list.
And so would a royal farlowella (sturisoma aureum)- or a pair of them.
And a royal plec if I had the room.

But those whiptails Neale showed were amazing- imagine a large tank with a sand substrate and a little school of those

I've downsized my plec collection and my tank since the move. So I'm limited now and can't take any more on (maybe a clown plec at a push or similar sized panaquey type, if the Royal will let me). I have my dream plec (the Royal) - wanted one of those for eons, but he's an investment fish really and if he grows too big for the tank in time, I'll have to see about selling him (but we're talking years away) or getting another tank again *lol*.

My dream would be something along the lines of a leopard cactus plec or scarlet plec (http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/image.php?image_id=419 and http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/image...?image_id=5145) - can't touch them with panaques because of the differences in diet, but if we're talking in fantasy world it would be one of him. I also like the various white spotted plecs, and hypostomus margaritifer is one of my faves too: http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/image.php?image_id=5121

Haven't seen those Pseudohemiodon apithanos in the flesh yet. But a few shops in London do have them, so maybe soon I'll go get one! Wildwoods and Wholesale Tropicals have/have had them periodically. I quite like the idea of creating a leaf-litter aqaurium just for them. They are apparently completely peaceful, so keeping a bunch of them would be fun. The males supposedly carry the eggs about on their lips... pretty weird.

Cheers,

Neale

I've seen pics of the males with eggs under their lips. It is too cute. They are incredible and so amazing. Hope you get some soon so we can all drool over them!!!

;)

Oh, I think you owe it to us, Neale. We need some vicarious lipbrooding whiptails!!! And I've always wanted to see a really good leaf-litter tank.
