Hi, I have just got this fish tank off a friend and brought a few fish for it. However when i got my son said that he wanted some more colourful fish and brighter gravel. There is enough room left for a few more fish i think. What fish are suitable to go with the fish i have? The tank is a 19L MoonPod.

My current stock is:
[background=rgb(252, 252, 252)]Golden Gourami [/background][background=rgb(252, 252, 252)]x1[/background][background=rgb(252, 252, 252)] [/background]
[background=rgb(252, 252, 252)]Angel Fish [/background][background=rgb(252, 252, 252)]x1[/background]
[background=rgb(252, 252, 252)]Upside Down Catfish [/background][background=rgb(252, 252, 252)]x1[/background]
[background=rgb(252, 252, 252)]Common Pleco [/background][background=rgb(252, 252, 252)]x1[/background]
[background=rgb(252, 252, 252)]Khuli Loach [/background][background=rgb(252, 252, 252)]x2[/background]
[background=rgb(252, 252, 252)]Zebra Loach [/background][background=rgb(252, 252, 252)]x2[/background]
[background=rgb(252, 252, 252)]Hillstream Loach [/background][background=rgb(252, 252, 252)]x1[/background]
[background=rgb(252, 252, 252)]Guppies[/background][background=rgb(252, 252, 252)] x2[/background]
[background=rgb(252, 252, 252)]Albino Corys [/background][background=rgb(252, 252, 252)]x3[/background]

The fish tank also does not have a light, filter or lid. Does it really need a light for the plants and moth balls? Also will the fish jump out without a lid? Could i make a cheap one from some clingfilm with some holes in it.

At the moment the tank is being heated by the gas heater it is sitting on and lite up via 2 candles.

Here are some photos of my current setup:

Thanks for looking.

Woah. Okay, that is incredibly overstocked. Honestly, I'd take everything out of that tank and donate them all to your local fish store and just start over. You can keep the guppies, but that's pretty much it.

OK, you've got a whole heap of trouble ahead of you if you keep that lot together in that size tank.

Best advice I can give you is to let us know what sort of fish you like, and we can move onto suggestions from there, but sorry to say that that tank, with that lot in it, will end in tears.

Were it not for the pictures I'd think you were joking. I still hope you are.

None of those fish are suitable for a 19l. You need to unfortunately return the fish tomorrow. If you can get say, a 60l set up tomorrow, complete with heater, filter and light, you could keep some. Most however are too large even for this size. You would then be in a fishless cycle and need to do massive daily water changes.

if you could get a 100l+ you could maybe keep most, the plec needs to be returned regardless, unless you fancy buying a 6ft tank. Have a good look at the beginner's resource centre, there's loads of valuable information in there.

Based on a 60l:

[background=rgb(252, 252, 252)]Return - Golden Gourami [/background][background=rgb(252, 252, 252)]x1[/background][background=rgb(252, 252, 252)] [/background]
[background=rgb(252, 252, 252)]Return - Angel Fish [/background][background=rgb(252, 252, 252)]x1[/background]
[background=rgb(252, 252, 252)]Upside Down Catfish [/background][background=rgb(252, 252, 252)]x1[/background]
[background=rgb(252, 252, 252)]Return - this grows up to 24 inches long - Common Pleco [/background][background=rgb(252, 252, 252)]x1[/background]
[background=rgb(252, 252, 252)]Keep I think - Khuli Loach [/background][background=rgb(252, 252, 252)]x2[/background]
[background=rgb(252, 252, 252)]? - Zebra Loach [/background][background=rgb(252, 252, 252)]x2[/background]
[background=rgb(252, 252, 252)]? - Hillstream Loach [/background][background=rgb(252, 252, 252)]x1[/background]
[background=rgb(252, 252, 252)]Keep - Guppies[/background][background=rgb(252, 252, 252)] x2[/background]
[background=rgb(252, 252, 252)]Keep and get 3 more - Albino Corys [/background][background=rgb(252, 252, 252)]x3[/background]

Well i like oscars but i hear they get big also, The local fish store sold me the fish (i told them what tank i had and shown them a picture) they said what i brought is fine for the size of tank. :S

The zebra loaches and hillstream need to go also. Need much bigger groups. Not sure on the Khulis.

So by mentioning the Oscar, you know about fish. I'm guessing you stumbled across this photo and thought it would be a funny post? Ha ha.

It's something every beginner does, don't feel bad! Trusting a fish store is almost always going to end in trouble. I think you'd be best off returning the fish, and we can help you cycle and get a beautifultank in no time :)

No, I liked the look of them in the shop they were only small but i overheard the guy selling them to someone saying the size they got to. All the tanks at the shop had way more fish than my tank has though? Must have been at least 50 guppys in a tank my size there.

Yes, but those tanks have large filters and the fish are temporary.

Ah that explains things, i guess i should go to another fish shop and donate or sell them these fish (or some of them) and buy some smaller ones?

That would be best :) I would take them back then wait on any more fish, and then we can help you cycle your tank. Without fish, it'll be a lot less stressful on you and them!

ok, but what about the light and heater, should i move the tank at all and get a proper light? At the moment i have the 2 candles lighting and i am worried about my moth balls not getting enough light.

That I honestly can't answer. I'm not very good with lighting! I imagine someone else will pipe up and answer that for you though.
