i ony wish..you are somethin with aquaria...that looks pretty much like the one in my dreams..i need to get over to the plants forum cause if i could have a tank with plants like that i probably wouldnt want to work...

Tank size is limited only by plant species. I tried searching for this "coffee pot" planted tank but I couldn't find it. Someone made a planted tank out of a coffee pot assembly, with the lights placed where the coffee filter usually is. All you need really is water, light, adequate heat and nutrients and plants should grow.

Looking good as usual gf225. Too bad that lotus won't start growing again. I know how it is, mine has sortof taken a break. I used to have 7 big leaves between the main plant and it's runner but now I've only 4. Tried dosing KSO4 and KNO3 and micros but to no avail. Perhaps they need down-times like apons.

That's what I was thinking. I can't find any info on Lily rest-periods though. More leaves are being produced but they're just not growing upwards on their stems. I'll give it a couple more months then get a new bulb or two or even try another plant all together.

New substrate, new plants (except Java fern) due to a massive BGA outbreak - see my Journal for details.

I've planted heavily with fast, easy growers; Hygrophila polysperma and H difformis to quickly acheive a balance. This isn't the final layout as I will be replacing most of the fast growing plants with more demanding, slower growing species but I'm happy with the current look - especially as it's more designed for utility (establishing the all important equilibrium thus fending off algae) than aesthetics.

Just wanted to say that your tank looks awesome as always gf

I also wanted to add that I too have to add nitrates.....and I feel/think/know that my tank is overstocked with fish (too many pretty platies and swordies out there to resist buying them)....

Before I added planted to my tank the nitrate was 10ppm now with plants it is as low as 5ppm....yes, I do add as well

Now all I need is some wide val and some swords and my tank will be close to complete

No worries - many people make the same mistake, especially visitors to my home, obviously Neons are the more well known species.

I much prefer Cardinals - they grow much larger with wider bodies and I prefer the deeper blue and more red colouration. Personally I find them more sensitive than Neons and my water is kept soft and acidic for their benefit (and the Rams). I have 28 in total and to see them shoal tightly on the odd occasion they do is a sight to behold.

Thanks Jim. The fast-growers are a temporary measure to acheive a quick balance and beat algae. As suggested in my journal I plan to eventually make a switch to more demanding, slower plants.
