Looking very nice indeed but you have way to many fish in there IMO

amazing as always gf225
ever entered a competion?
maybe cut down on the rams, maybe down to a pair as they probably will breed soon in that tank and the rule is 20gal/pair, but your choice and im sure they're happy

I did want just the one pair but my wife insisted. I agreed that if they behaved ok then we'd keep all five - if not I'd give 3 back to the LFS after the strongest pair had formed. They all seem happy so far. And thanks BTW.

Just wondered where you got the heating cable from? I think Dennerle do them in various lengths? But I'm looking for a smaller one for a tank with a foot print of 17.5" x 10.5".

Thanks

I use a Rena-Cor 25W heater cable. They do a 15W which should do fine for you. You'll need to put it on a timer to prevent overheating - mine is coupled to the lights. They're very reliable and much cheaper than the Dennerle models.

By traditional standards you are correct. My tank volume should house no more than 58" of fish. I have a fair bit more than that but don't see it as a problem. The majority of the fish are small tetras which produce little waste. I have excellent bio-flitration and fast-growing plants. I have to ADD Nitrates to my water (for the plants obviously)- something which surely wouldn't occur in an overstocked tank. All the fish appear in excellent health and display no signs of overcrowding-induced stress.

So while I agree that my tank appears overstocked at first glance I would say that sometimes the rules can be bent. Thanks for bringing your opinion to my attention though - I know that you hold the fishes interest in highest regard as do I.

Gf225 all i can say is :
Your tank is truly stunning and an inspiration to lots of people including myself. Unfortuneatley i do not have the money for all the equipement you have but when i win the lottery i'll employ you to do my tank!
And i have to say malaysian trumpet snails and shrimp are best thing anyone could add to a planted tank Like Gf225 i hardly clean my gravel anymore as the snails churn it all up and my low light and low maintenance plants are thriving!

I love your tanks. You do an amazing job. It's a great reference point for anyone (like myself) just getting into planted stuff. And you make such good notes, making it easier for newbies!

Thanks, and keep up the great work!
