Planning 1st spawn

I doubt that many, 500 is a large spawn and not all will be males. It'll be months before I spawn them, and months before they need to be jarred, so theres plenty of time to judge how big the spawn is an get down to some serious dinking if need be

God, I don't think anyone would be hobby breeding if you needed 500 jarring containers for every spawn
It's not very often you have a spawn where 500 babies hatch and survive to the jarring stage, and like OohFeeshy said, not all will be males. At last count I had 198 babies survive, but I've only bought 40 jarring containers (three of which house my imbellis juvies). Not all my males showed aggression early, so I had the luxury of adopting out the first jarred and then reusing their jars for their brothers :)

Synirr, since you're the genetics know-how around here, what outcome would I roughly expect from a female with SD and PK parents and a male with (I'm guessing) CT and some sort of longtail parents?

I'm a little confused... are you saying the female is a cross between a SD and a plakat and the male is a cross of CT and something else? I'd have to know what the parental tail types are to tell ya for sure :/

Yep. One of Clover's babies (female), the male I'm awaiting on, all I know is he was labelled as a wild dragon CT cross.

I'm guessing that a 'wild dragon' is plakat, so if both parents are long-finned but have a plakat parent themselves, you'll get 3/4th long-finned and 1/4th plakats. Half of those will have varying degrees of combing on their fins thanks to pappa's CT gene. :)

Do you have recycling boxes in your area? If you do you could run out in the morning and swipe everyones pop bottles from the recycling boxes before the lorry gets to you :D It's what i'd do lol.

You could always just pop down to your local newspaper or sweet shop and ask them to save you those big plastic jars which they keep the sweets in. i was thinking about breeding also but im putting it on hold as i want to gte my other tanks looking nice, and i thought it was a good idea as they onyl bin them afterwards and they are a bit bigger than 2 litres, Ask you neighbours also and family :D Goodluck
