Microglanis sp.

They're getting worse, salt is doing nothing. They even have tannins, those are doing nothing.

But it's looking way less like any ich, I've never seen any disease like this ever. I am leaning towards some sort of parasite, I may have to crack out the praziquantel/metronidazole reserves.

I'd like to take a look at these under my microscope to see what it is if it's alive or what.

I may keep up the salt a bit longer. I'm unsure if there's major improvement, but 3 seem a little improved, but still one majorly affected still.

Planet catfish is also stumped as to what this disease is.

I am definitely seeing a major improvement. I barely see much spots on most of them, a few on the worst affected but not near as many. Whatever the heck it is, the salt is taking care of it. These guys are handling the salt extremely well.

Here's a video from when I fed them tonight, their little quarantine tote lol

My city lost their lfs during the pandemic and we had been without for awhile. A new one opened up this past month and I've finally got around to visiting.

And I... may have brought some new friends home unplanned.

They're in quarantine for the time being, I'd like to monitor them since they're freshly imported.

I have them sitting in a container in one of the tanks for time being, until i can tell if the heater i had in storage is working or not properly. Gave them some frozen brine shrimp while they wait and they ate right away.

Supposedly they come from areas with good flow, given the name of your sculpin there, he comes from faster flow streams too? Likely good camouflage for bottom dwellers in stream habitats

They like wedging themselves behind the pump lol but they're nearly all clear of the orange gunky spots!

Wow, Cass, I've been MIA mostly lately. I'm glad your little cuties are recovering. I think I've heard of neo-ich but not much about how to treat it.

Continuing good luck with them! They look a bit fatter too, always a good sign :)

They're definitely getting fatter.

This was the worst affected one, he's only got a couple spots left on him

I can't complain at all, it's improving quickly now and they're gaining weight. More enthusiasm over normal dry foods as well. These guys are pretty neat little guys.

We are clearing up! A few small spots left on one of the smaller ones, but very very small and few!

Applying more salt to their quarantine still, but we are definitely on an uphill here :D

This is good news.

The local fish store guy had to euthanize an entire lot of them as they responded to none of his treatments. He lost 2 or 3 a day and could do nothing, although to his credit, he shut the tank as soon as he unbagged them and tried his best. He didn't sell any of them, which is better than what the chain stores would have done.

I am unsure how the new lfs dealt with this, as surely it's hit his tanks. I just haven't brought it up, worry that me saying something about it may come off as a slight against the store and I don't want that 🥲

Their quarantine tote is a little 4 gallon tote, I've been treating them with a tablespoon of salt, they seem to respond well to it, unlike the half dosed malachite green they did NOT respond well to that. I water change 90% every 2 days and redose the salt.

(I'm surprised the stargrass and duckweed in the enclosure aren't dying off from the salt content lol)

We had a talk about this (the store owner and I). He is pretty good on diseases, but hadn't seen this one before. It never spread to anything else.

Do you know if it was the same as this issue?

I saw 3 corpses, dead a few hours, but I think so.

I'd imagine they were from the same importation, showing up as they did at around the same time. The importing companies are fairly central and the fish just fly around to different spots.

You can do a slow treatment, but unless a store has a backroom QT, the sick and medicated fish have to be on display, and that makes them look very bad. This guy tried hard. He's very ethical and likes fish - but his were far gone. They had also had a longer second ship than fish where you are would.

Given I'm seeing improvement with it, perhaps if this is successful, suggest the heavy salt treatment to him.

I actually would rather see a store have a tank labeled not for sale due to sickness, because I can see that they are trying to medicate and not spread the disease to people who don't know better. But, I know that many freshly imported/shipped fish are prone to illness more than fish that have been around for awhile, so I am also more understanding on that front.

I took a sample of one of the orange lumps and looked at it under my microscope, but I couldn't make heads or tails of it.

Planet Catfish also did not recognize this disease either 🤷‍♀️ I've never seen anything like it myself either.
