Planned Fry Journal Just For Fun :)

MORE TANKS! MORE TANKS! MUST HAVE MORE TANKS!

I fell into that trap...I had 9 at once...it's costly and takes up room and time but is ssoooo tempting.

It really isn't fair to the harlequins, which is sad but it does allow you to focus on the guppy and the breeding.

You are right it's not fair to the harlequins you think oh they are so small they wont take up much room-but they need that room to zoom about. I will concentrate on the black guppy fry. The females aren't showing signs of being pregnant yet, I was hoping they let the black male mate with them but it looks like I will have guppies that look like bees due to the half black female wanting to get the yellow males attention lol. He tries to get away from her.
The babies I have in the fry tank came from females who were already pregnant. It's a lucky dip really lol I can't wait for them to colour up. Patience has never been my strong point but it's only been 2 weeks?
I was going to start another thread for my platies but this one doesn't say guppy fry just planned fry and since I want to breed white platies or as white as I can get then I will put their progress here too!
Thanks everyone also for taking the time to read my ramblings on! I do tend to bore people by being over enthusiastic but that's why we're on this forum I suppose.  I appreciate any help and suggestions.

Are you sure the females want to mate with the yellow male and not just bullying the new guy?

Does your Dobbies have a World of Water outlet?  Mine does, that's where I got my first fish, I had my heart set on red platies and they were the only shop selling red ones at the time.  Try to find out why he thinks they're so bad, I'd be interested!

My half black female is stuck to the yellow males side. He mates with her and she lets him. The black male tries to mate with her and she chases him away

The half black on closer inspection looks to be about 2 weeks pregnant so going by that and the fact that she wasn't pregnant when I got her and I had no other males in the tank-it must be the black male! I hope so anyway!

I love red platies tey are so vibrant! I was going to get one today with the white male but resisted as I wanted to breed white babies!

The dobbies here has it's own section of pets, including fish and the stunning marine tanks with the seahorses! The one in Edinburgh is where they have the huge display tank with the platinum arrowanas -now they are a beautiful fish!
I will speak to him tomorrow. I have had no issues with dobbies. Pets at home yes they are just riddled with problems

but never them.

Lol the yellow male must have a certain something that impresses the ladies!

Lengthwise he is the same size as the females whereas my black male is small.
They do say size matters but this is a family show :p

They do pick the fish they feel is the best mate so if you have a target you want to mate it might be necessary to remove the one they feel is best so they will mate with the one you want them to.

That's the rasboras away to their new home, they will be a lot happier there. I was just going to have the black male but my landlady felt sorry for her lone male and gave him to me. She thought it was a female and was swimming about happily with her other fish until I saw it and was like it's a boy and is trying to mate with your rainbow fish!

I noticed today that my virgin female has no gravid spot and is very skinny. I forgot she hadn't had fry before so I should have moved her into the other tank earlier. I don't see any survivors if she did have fry. She doesn't seem herself, sitting behind the plants. Today is water change day and after the 50% change she seemed too perk up a bit then just goes into a sort of daze where it looks like she's staring into space and just floating then she snaps out of it and starts swimming again. I will keep an eye on her.
I took the vallis out of the fry tank as it looked like it was dying, probably the heat in that tank. I am reluctant to put the babies back into the main tank! They are definitely big enough. I just can't wait until they get colour.
In dobbies today I saw a red tuxedo male with the most spectacular huge tail. I resisted. I also resisted buying the siamese fighter they had. I have never seen one this colour before. It's hard to describe the colour. I would say cappuccino coloured. A lot lighter than this

He was beautiful and in the same tank as the male guppies. It killed me to walk away but I can't offer him any better home as I have guppies too :(

Nice coloration on that betta.

Ok so I woke up, went through and put the tank lights on and thats when I noticed the fry tank. My little girl had already fed them

Yes the white dots flying around and on everything is food. I went mad! I did a huge water change, took the water right down to a few cms and hid the food again

They were all swimming about with big bellies. They are getting huge. The man who took the rasboras has a 5ft tank, He is wanting at least 5 of the guppies.
The babies who are 3 weeks old this week are massive. They are 2cms long already, the growth rate is impressive. I have never had them grow this quick.
The 2 week old ones are almost 2cms too, it's getting hard to tell them apart. They are so big now I can get proper pics.

Aww bless her!  At least she likes feeding them, I asked my five year old the other day and he said "nah it's boring!"
My youngest is three in a few weeks and he likes to feed the fish, but only under careful supervision!
Last week I was helping him to take a pinch of fish food and my husband happened to be passing by and encouraged him, "Put it in the tank!" and my son had just taken a very large pinch so he dumped it all in the tank as instructed!  Hubby is now forbidden from giving any advice on fish feeding haha!

I used to say fish are a boring pet so I know where you're 5 year old is coming from! As for you're 3 year old -at least he did as he was told haha! That's cute!
Mines is a little too enthusiastic. Now we have the tantrum of I don't want my fish to go away. I am trying to explain to her that 15 guppies wont fit in her tank, and they wont fit in mine either. Then she says what fish am I having then? She doesn't understand yet.

I just have to add, the female who wasn't herself yesterday is missing. I get the gut wrenching feeling when I try and look for the body. I don't think she survived the night :(
